A Question for Anyone who Skis

Do you really wish you were a snowboarder? Honestly, does it look fun to you?

The only time as snowboarder I ever wanted to be a skier was when the backcountry started opening up, I saw these mountaineers skinning up and getting after it while we post holded and snowshowed up little hills, things have come around though with the splitboard progression as of late.

I grew up in the ocean so for me snowboarding was the natural progression. I don't really see how anyone that surfs would prefer skiing over snowboarding??????

I snowboarded for a couple years before fat skis came out.

Now I would never go back to snowboarding

Two skis but, only need to learn how to turn one... it's the same for both sides.

I see it the opposite way, except I've never wanted to snowboard. Ever.

And why would I? I get to skin up mountains in backcountry, I don't need to sit on my ass in the middle of the trail, I ski faster than any snowboarder, I'm not making backward blind turns, and I get the option to enjoy moguls the correct way. Even watching olympics and x games, the skiing is cooler - you can cross skis and mix it up. Snowboarders only do flips and spins - which is slightly more boring imo.

My question for you is why do you snowboard? Is it because you thought it was cooler when you were a teenager? I personally think skiing is cooler.

....and oh yeah.....you can paraglide and speed fly with skis on....

Behold my fluffy goodness, you bastard.

Splitboarding is still a compromise, and that's coming from someone who's been doing it for about 13 years. I do both, and am leaning toward skiing because I suck at it so I feel like I'm improving. Snowboarding OTOH I used to be good, but find myself getting worse every time I go out. They are both still more fun than talking about it on TGR though.

However shitty ski boots are, having both feet locked into a board at an uncomfortable angle looks miserable as does postholing up to your waist.

There are a few snow conditions that look easier on a board but the rest of the time NO

At the local ski hill if you wana lap the side country you gotta traverse way out around a cliff and way back which is ok on skis but doesn't work on a board, SO locally the snow boarders can't acess a whole bunch of the side country pow runs ...more pow for me

I can do both at an expert level but haven't snowboarded in several years.

All the advantages snowboarding used to have over skiing are gone. Modern skis are too good, every time I snowboard I just find myself wishing I was on skis.

    ^Truth

Can you imagine the digger you'd take getting off the chair on a snowboard?

The biggest thing for me is convenience. Sitting comfortably on the chair, not strapping in every run, more convenient transitions, the list goes on

    .

That might be another thing. I'm pretty sure no skier who hasn't skied for several years would still claim to be an expert.

Don't kid yourself. All TGR skiers claim to be experts.

    No.

Surfing and skateboarding you can still at least move your feet around. Hated the feeling of having my feet locked in to position. Stuck in run outs, strapping in, etc. just blows. Independent leg suspension = better performance.

In the end, what ever floats your boat.

Yeah, maybe I'm not any good on a snowboard anymore. We may never find out!

Skiers do get around and they haul ass. I caught last chair for free at Killington one year June eleventh maybe and the mogul field that awaited was bad bad news for my 173 powder board. I believe boards to be superior for making the most of sparse powder scraps. Like surfing maybe you don't need as much real estate to get off. The sensuality of a toe side powder turn cannot be matched on skis.

Easy. Move to Colorado and buy a Volcano. Try the edibles, too.
