Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

Now Peter Piper picked peppers, but Run rapped rhymes.
Humpty Dumpty fell down, that's his hard time.
Jack B. Nimble, what, nimble, and he was quick,
But Jam Master was faster, Jack saw Jay's dick.

I use Fido jars. I bent the metal hinges a little bit on the tighter fitting lids. No issues after several years of use.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

That is what an airlock accomplishes, but you aren't really trying to keep air out as it contains all the good stuff to aid in fermentation. What you are seeking is just that solid things don't get in, like fruit flies, dust, etc. Cheesecloth works fine. You can even screw the ring around some cloth or use a rubber band. I have specialty lids for my mason jars, but during really heavy ferments they can't keep up with the fermentation. Always put your jars in a bowl for the most active part of the fermentation or you may come home to a lake. I've had ferments that sound like a solid quif for a day and a half. Especially if you lacto ferment which I don't bother with anymore for a couple of reasons.

Cube was seriously rippin off some Slick Rick with that shit. I had that Ice Cube cd, I had all of the works of the NWA brethren when in my 20’s. I may have even seen MC Hammer in concert, heh. My 22yo son is a mini me, his rap tastes are a bit more beat centric than mine but he’s been to several Rolling Loud concerts and would’ve been in Miami again if not for the pandemic.
