More evidence that the league conspired to treat the Patriots unfairly and acted in bad faith when punishing the Patriots.

19 teams say that the big bad Patriots cheated and kicked their ass. One owner goes on the record, anonymously, and says that the punishment for Deflategate was a "makeup" for Spygate and their other unfounded transgressions. The league leaks false information to the press to get the witch hunt of but hurt masses whipped into a frenzy screaming Cheatriots! The accused begs the league to correct the record but they are rebuffed. Then the commissioner hires a stouge to investigate them with foregone conclusions. His partner, and league counsel is able to edit the hit piece before it's publication. Massive amounts of exculpatory evidence are excluded from the report and the accused are denied access to evidence and witnesses. Rodger Goodel imposes the harshest penalty ever on a team for "intentionally" deflating balls by .02 to .2 psi. Bob Kraft is told by other owners that he has no support and to accept his punishment.

Roger Goodell appoints himself as the "neutral arbitrator" where he increases the accusation from "more probable than not he was generally aware" to "participated in a conspiracy to deflate balls" based on literally nothing. Prior to the official release the NFL releases a report that Tom Brady intentionally destroyed his personal phone but leaves out that he was never asked to turn over his phone. Tom Brady offers to get any information that could have been on his phone but Goodell says this is "not practical", then cuts check for over $10 million for the investigation and appeal.

The first neutral party to adjudicate the matter laughs at the NFL'S process, evidence, and tells them to settle. The NFL refuses. The judge overturns the arbitration as it lacked fundamental fairness for no less than 3 separate reasons. I'd like to point out that less than 3% of binding arbitration cases are overturned, yet this one was so aggregious that there were 3 separate reasons to over turn it. One could infer that the NFL'S case was so bad that it was the in the worst of .027% of all arbitration cases heard.

Following the ruling, additional reports that lack any substantiation accuse the Patriots of further cheating. People with direct monetary and authoritative influence over the commissioner say that the punishment was not so much for the alleged transgression, but for all the unproven allegations. Confirming that this was not a investigation and punishment based on due process under league rules but a bonifide witch hunt overseen by a kangaroo court.

Remember that small handful of games during which the Pats illegally videotaped opponents’ sideline signals? Well, according to ESPN, that small handful was about forty.

The new report says that the Patriots recorded 40 games from 2000 to 2007. In other words… Not just a Super Bowl walk through. Not merely a few isolated games. 40 games, over several years.

Wasn’t the Hoodman the guy who reportedly told Bob Kraft that on a scale of 1-100, the amount of actual help the tapes gave the Patriots was “a 1.” Then why would they do it for 8 years? Allegedly.

If you taped that much and it barely helped, you’re either lying or you’re wasting your time… ESPN reports the Pats’ cheating was way more widespread than just Spygate; that Spygate wasn’t a one off and that the Pats may have actually been serial cheaters.

According to the report, the Patriots didn’t just have a guy with some videotapes, they had lots of guys and lots of videotapes. An entire “secret library” of them.

And that’s not even the best part. “Many former New England coaches and employees insist that the taping of signals wasn’t even the most effective cheating method the Patriots deployed in that era. Several of them acknowledge that during pregame warm-ups, a low-level Patriots employee would sneak into the visiting locker room and steal the play sheet, listing the first 20 or so scripted calls for the opposing team’s offense.” WHAT!?! Breaking into the visiting locker room and stealing plays? And they also reportedly rummaged the visiting team’s hotel for any other additional intel they could gather.

Are you serious? Jamming the other team’s headsets during games didn’t want any of that? Actually, it did. “At Gillette Stadium, the scrambling and jamming of the opponents’ coach-to-quarterback radio line — “small bleep” that many teams do, according to a former Pats assistant coach — occurred so often that one team asked a league official to sit in the coaches’ box during the game and wait for it to happen. Sure enough, on a key third down, the headset went out.”

Again, according to the report, the Patriots recorded signals in at least 40 games. They had cameramen taping over New England logos and even throwing on fake NFL Films gear taping to get the shots they wanted.

New England Cheatriots? Absolutely. Allegedly.

Being a great team and being cheaters are not mutually exclusive things. The Patriots fans' response is always "we beat them by so much, how could it be cheating" or point to a loss and say "how could we lose that game if we were cheating". The kind of cheating being discussed here doesn't stop the players from playing the games. The better team is the better team, and I don't think *anyone* would suggest they have not been a truly great team. Anyone who thinks Brady is not a great QB or BB is not an amazing coach is a fool. Because they are.

The cheating being discussed here does not change that. The (alleged) cheating is the kind that is designed to give you a slight edge here or there; if it tips the balance on one critical play that might be the difference in a game. Or it might not. Which is why pointing to wins or losses as evidence of cheating or evidence of a lack of cheating is absurd. That's not how it works.

But I think that perhaps we ARE looking at this the wrong way. Maybe cheating of any kind should be not only allowed, but encouraged. Stealing the other team's playbook, setting up cameras to film play calls, etc? Thats small potatos. How about getting really creative - pay low paid bench players to spy for you, wire hotel rooms, dressing rooms, and team buses. Heck how about kidnap the opposing offense coordinator and waterboard him. If you can't beat em, join em.
