Danno, I think it all boils down to this: That they had to resort to neo-McCarthyism, I think they're afraid some of us are having too good a time.

I'm saying that your ex is more concerned that you have moved on and are having a good time, with someone else, than concern for her kid. I was quoting funny Dazed and Confused scenes concerning the pledge sheet, since that's basically what your ex wants. However, you know her better than any of us, except you probably have a few blindspots or she wouldn't be your ex and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Kudos to you btw for trying to keep things civil and successfully co-parent. That's awesome. Your kid is worth it. I'm sure at times it might make you want to pull your hair out. My experience is from the kid's perspective. My parents had their moments and eventually made their peace. They're both gone now.

I remember the lines you just quoted, but I don't have the whole script memorized. And don't know why he's quoting it here.

Well, I’m kind of mystified by that too. But it’s riser4, and at least he’s not talking about bathroom habits.

I can definitely understand why seeing your dad in bed with another woman, even just sleeping, can be weird at 12 after a big scary divorce. Probably too soon, yes but I doubt it's a big deal in the big picture of life. You are not a bad father, just sometimes things aren't picture perfect or ideal and if you talk to the kid about it yer good.

    Well fuck. Checking in.

My wife and I have been having issues the last few years, but I always assumed that we would figure a way through them all. The last couple months have been eye opening to both of us, though, and we’ve just grown to different places.

She’s too kind to toss me out on my ass, so it was up to me to pull the rip cord. Fucking heart breaking to do that to my best friend.

In the last few months I’ve lost my two biggest clients, my dog got cancer, and now my marriage is over. My life’s an old country song I guess.

Luckily we don’t have any kids, the only debt is our house and my non-forgiven student loans so I’ll have a few months of runway to get my life back together.

Anyone done a no lawyer divorce? I think we’d both prefer to not hire one if possible.

    Sorry mang, that sucks.

I did a no lawyer divorce. There's no secret to it, it's all about how y'all work together, whether you can trust her, and how much risk you're willing to take if that trust is misplaced. I took a lot of risk but decided that all I was risking was money, in the hopes of making shit easier/better for my daughter. Everyone's mileage may vary.

Good to know. I definitely trust her when it comes to this stuff, so I don't have any worries there (though I guess who knows). In Oregon they have a dedicated clerk I think to make sure all your paperwork is in order as well, so that gives me a little piece of mind as well.
