Oh she was a lesbian. A hot one. Probably she was throwing me clues all along but I was blinded by lust I guess.
I shoulda told her it was fine with me if she brought her girlfriend home with us but I flailed.

I had a 'Secretly I'm A Lesbian' shirt in the nineties. Bought it in SF, of course.

Maybe, but I’m gonna go all Occam’s Razor and say she’s a lesbian. She liked iceman, just not that way.

She works in consulting and is currently assigned to a project on an island in the Caribbean. She's working a 2 weeks on, 2 day off schedule getting said project across the line. She's back this weekend, then has two weeks on location in the Caribbean before heading to South America.
Was in the Caribbean with her this weekend and can confirm that she does, indeed work down there in either consulting or for the CIA. Not sure which.
When she's back from her South America trip I'll be in Australia for work.
Kinda crazy schedules between the two of us for the next month.

one of the greatest quotes given to me:
"the fairytale is burned into the subconscious"
take that with you, or do not.
for me, it is spot on.

oh I was hammered later, but not sure what I did at the bar, it was kind of a weird scene there, getting the staredown from various hostile lumberjacks etc.

I read ice's post and was all ready to correct lumberjack to lumberjill. Good thing I noticed there was another page to the thread and clicked.

First time caller, long time listener. Anyplace to start? Pretty much been going round in circles with this idea for years. Not in a healthy, happy, situation for either of us an it doesn't seem like it will ever change. Any use in the DIY approach of researching stuff online? Kinda thinking the best plan is just to get a lawyer for the business end and hit up the EAP to keep myself sane. Things to look for in a lawyer? Also how does that work out financially? Can I just go spend a bunch of our money on a consultation/ retainer and she gets to do the same without agreement from each other? Do I get a family member to spot the lawyer $? How does anything work?.

Make a list of your assets divide by two then see if the attorney fees(x2) will make a noticable dent in it. If the answer is yes go see an arbitrator and split it down the middle. I see too many retards spending $40k to fight over $30k to be right. If you have kids try to be civil and keep their best interest as the only goal.

No agreement between the parties necessary around hiring lawyers. Hire an asshole. Don't try to be nice. Take all the advice that you can't believe you could need to take. Chances are if you don't you'll wish you did.
Depends a lot on whether you're in agreement with her around terms and necessity of the split. If you're on the same page it'll be easier,

Thanks. I am super naïve and also not that organized but I'm getting everything together for tax season anyways. It seems like counsel is a good idea even if we have no desire to go to court right?
That sounds great. Doubt it will go that well for me. She is very angry and boozy. Hopefully we'll avoid court at least.

Do not do this without a lawyer unless you have unlimited capacity for figuring out a convoluted legal system, lots of time, and a complete agreement with your ex ON PAPER WITH HER SIGNATURE.
Going to court is a last resort and can easily double your legal bills over not going to court. Negotiate with lawyers in the middle for a while, if you can't get there go to mediation. Avoid court if possible, too many variables and more of a crapshoot for a man than a woman.
Again, do not try to be nice. Trying to be fair is good and right, but chances are her lawyer will direct her to fuck you six ways from Sunday. Get a lawyer who will play hardball from the outset.
