quick question for CA legal Mags - do I stand to lose anything by doing a divorce by default? wife says we can save time and money if she files and I do not respond - then we do a marital settlement using the mediator and the court - does this put me at risk or in a worse position?

I'd ask if it's such a great idea, you file and let her not respond to it.

Way to reflect Throw. You'l be ready when you're ready. Or not. Do what works for you. Kind of amazing how wonderful it is when you start doing that!

Why wouldn’t you do the mediator etc then do the divorce?

Or respond, then withdraw the response when the settlement is in place.

....but talk to a ca lawyer. Here if you don’t respond you don’t get a right to certain information from the court.

If everything is settled it is a common way to get an uncontested divorce here though ... if everything else is settled.

That’s what I’m thinking, but I’m doing research, which includes asking advice of my crack Maggot legal team.

Mike, this is one area where it's worth paying a few hundred to get a consultation with a CA attorney who practices family law. Doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't do this without a lawyer, you don't need to hire a lawyer. Just get a consultation so you understand the lay of the land.

totally different chick - mtn bike girl and split board girl are out of the picture romantically - still friends

the attorney doesn’t practice law any more - now she does property management and real estate - I haven’t asked her about it

I know nothing but what I have read here, but based on that KQ is trained as a lawyer but doesn't practice and has rental properties.

    She was making a joke.

Tammy Wynette cannot be reached for help-Divorce advice

    Only in the sourdough thread.

Edit: yeah that was a good one...

And sadly, for me at least, I’m not dating anyone yet. But I am putting together her new furniture at her new mountain chalet. At this point, I’m just the guy she’s hired to help her out. But I think she might like me.

Another edit: we’re bickering via text about putting together Ikea furniture so she I’ve got that going for me

Yes but let’s not fuck around. KQ does not deserve folks making jokes at her expense. Them’s fighting words. I won’t tolerate that bullshit at all.
