If this wasn’t on BAT, which means it will go for thousands over anything reasonable, I would seriously consider buying this rig. That trailer is basically a detached fourth row. I could put the kids in the trailer and not have to hear a damn thing.

That thing's in Kirkland? I wonder where you hide a monster like that.

This Passat's been on the same block the last few times I was in Kirkland.Click image for larger version.

Is that strap holding something down, or is it holding up the rear end?

FKNA the 850 Turbo R wagons were/are bad ass. I still remember a magazine cover when the car debuted. "153MPH WAGON!" or something like that with a picture of the back of a yellow R wagon.

Tailgate I'm pretty sure. I'll take a better picture next time I go by and it's daytime.

I just bought an 02 xc70 wag from a customer - something about 5 cyl turbo that really works for me.

    Nice!

The sheet metal on those things feels like it’s 2” thick and looks in good knick on yours. Biggest cargo area ever too.

Still one of the best looking wagons. I am on the hunt for an nice clean 325xi, plan to convert it to an electric. I figure 15 years from now I'd rather be driving a nice clean E46 Touring vs most anything on the road today or coming out in the next 5-10. It's just old enough that they're cheap now and they'll age well.

I'm guessing he'll rip out the engine and put in a battery.

There is some interesting development happening with open source hacking of Toyota hybrid drivetrains and Nissan Leaf stuff. Guys are able to pull 300hp out of a hacked Leaf drivetrain.

Lexus rwd used a transmission that has a 2spd gear box along with two electric motors in it. The "generator" motor can be used in conjunction with the traction drive motor for 250+ hp and gobs of torque. Basically rip out the stock transmission and bolt in the Lexus unit, fill the now empty engine bay with batteries and electrical goodies. There is an open source VCU that will allow you to reprogram all the needed CAN bus signals to trick the car into thinking it's normal.

The guy behind this E81 is unlocking the potential for some pretty clean DIY EV conversions.

This would be a secondary vehicle for us, something we only need 160 ish km per charge.

I plan to build a Celica GT4 with electric drivetrain after I finish the one I'm working on now. In 10 years I should have a little better options on that task.

Interesting. This reddit thread talks about the Lexus conversion into a 330. It's a few years old so probably more recent info available elsewhere.

Not to take away from the EV discussion, but this was a couple posts down from that and it was too good not to share.

Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
