We discussed that roadmaster earlier in this thread. Turned out the guy was local, and I went and saw it.

The lights were cosmetic only at that stage, and there were lots of small things that weren't 100% but it seemed solid overall. I got the feeling the guy ran out of enthusiasm before he ran out of money.

Parked next to this absolutely cherry maroon Merc turbo diesel yesterday. Had a Bilstein sticker, PCA sticker and Merc 100k medallion. Thing is clearly used but insanely well kept. Plaid matching floor mats was a baller touch.

We recently moved offices and while my commute is largely through the same neighborhoods, I now pass a beautiful estate that has a cherry looking 240 wagon out front that they put a Christmas tree with lights on top for the season. Which means my holiday cheer just went up by that much more.

    Kinda like this:

Gorgeous old merc, Bmills. I’m lucky and cursed because the island I live on prides itself on passing cool stuff around with out the markup the rest of the country is battling. There was an awesome 300TD posted on the local group the other day and I paused for too long.

Now this thing is sexy as well, in a different kind of way.

    Amazing engine. But forty valves?
    Wtf?

What do the extra valves do? You can do quad valves and get to 32.
    40????

Yes, you read it correctly. It has 40 valves. Four zero.

The extra valves either let more air in, or let more exhaust out.

Once again, yes, it has forty (40) valves. In a V8.

Looked like some mice had chewed through a wiring harness. Turns out the insulation in some of the harnesses is made from soy fiber. It still ran after the fire but lots of melted plastic and hoses.

I got a great coverage from the insurance folks, let them take the old one, found another one, a silver west coast 2008 manual with 100k, but it burns oil to the tune of 1 quart every 500 miles.

On close inspection, it turned out the cylinder walls were scored (too much ethanol?), so unclear if it's grindable.

Then the new motor turned up, so I'm going whole hog on the thing , new clutch, new A arms, etc. Trans seems solid though, so no rebuild there. A not on the new motor was lack of
cam tensioner solenoids, so had to squeeze a bit more for them.

Cars are ridiculous and after rebuilding everything with a new motor, I'll be in about 28k. Wife is completely supportive (I bought her a Macan GTS about 4 month ago).

No shame there, Art. That 300TD is a seriously handsome car. Rad that people on the island will keep something like that in-house so to speak.

Totally agree on the Taycan Sport Turismo; I’m in that before any other electric given the chance.

Hahahaha. That is freaking awesome. Going to have to print that out to hang up in my office.

Not gonna lie. Been perusing Craigslist lately on the lookout for a 240 wagon. Preferably with the rear-facing seats in the cargo area and a stick. Driven many a 240 and they were so ungodly sloooooooow, but solid drivers, and sturdy steeds they were indeed. If I had a kid in high school, THAT is what I'd love for them to have. Funny thing though, evidently old Volvos are the latest rage with kids these days. For real. Who woulda thunk it? Maybe the future is not lost after all.
