Edit...nevermind. You are talking Volvo of course. Fml.

The stage 1 on the 1.8 in the Alltrack hasn't resulted in engine damage that I have seen discussed on any forum. Turbo issues with the is12 yes...but upgrading to the is20 if the blow off valve or whatever it is that fails is just another thousand bucks or so. Personally happy with the engine stock though. I think it is a pretty tough little unit that can handle more HP.

Also there is like 10 different ways to tune it. Some of them can be done at home. I'd know more but not even remotely interested right now...just trying to keep all of our cars running is challenge enough.

It's a great wagon for the money.

Whether you pour money into it is really a function of how much can you afford. As it ages, the complicated 4c and Haldex can be costly to maintian. I think the shocks are / were around $2500 apiece.

When they started using bigger displacement they just bored out the cylinder more, thinning the walls. The 2.3's could handle a lot of boost.

I got a custom tunable ECU from "Tightmopedman" Lived in Durango at the time. Think he was a boarder. Put the factory ECU back in when the laptop I was using STB and various plastic connectors used through out the car started to deteriorate. Basically a town car now. Newer cars (1998) are so much better now.

My caR was delivered in the USA. If you buy the shocks from the dealer, I have heard crazy prices quoted, I think close to $600each??? But I shop around online and got my latest set from AutoDoc in Germany for about $250 each shipped. It is not a cheap car to maintain at this point, as with 200k miles, everything needs to be replaced. Fucking modules for this and that are really expensive and add up. Hopefully the last 18 months of money pit are it for awhile.

We've sunk about $2500 into our R in the last year redoing the struts and shocks, plus plugs. But that's a lot less than I'd be paying for a new car without the features we want. My 16 year old daughter drives it to school and is the subject of much envy, especially when her classmates find out it's a manual.

A buddy did that. He ended up with a cigarette company ad. That was all fine until he tried to take a ski trip to Canada. Mounties refused to let him cross the border, illegal to advertise cigarettes in Canada, eh.

    Noice.

My kids just 14, but mom knows he is learning stick.
It’s the only way to “ drive”.
Plus he’s less likely to text.
Unfortunately the only stick I own these days is an M5.
400hp might be a bit much for learning.

What’s a good low HP beater stick car for a kid to learn on.
And still look cool enough to get a date.

It is all fun and games till you spend your valuable quarantine hours in the garage changing out your kids exploded clutch.

My 2004 E500 both rear air shocks finally started leak all the way down overnight. They pump up fine but the wear on the pump is worrying. So now I just drive it in the raised position and it doesn’t leak down overnight. There are two internal valves in the strut and I’m assuming the raise valve still works. It’s cool because it self cancels after a few miles of freeway driving. Hopi g it’s good for a while.

I do have to replace the passenger headlamp. Needs a new ballast and it’s not much more to buy a nicer used one. Just hope I bought the right part

Volvo 240. The sedan tho because the back of that in wagon form would've been dangerous for teenage me.

Good luck. Those that didn’t go off to Connecticut with the owner’s college-bound kids in the late 90’s, never to be seen again, have become the trendy hipster euro-classic to own.

Not that I blame them. I love the things.

In the UK if you take your test in an auto you get a license endorsed for autos only.

And with a stick requires a no roll back hill start.

Same in the US for CDL holders. If you test with an automatic you can only drive an automatic.

Back in the day, #1 daughter got a nicely riced out Honda Civic with a stick. She loved it until she totaled it.

    Get him a little pickup.

No kids in the back to distract them and if there’s more than 3, they have to take the other kids car.

You don’t need to worry about them getting dates. You need them to survive.

Frankly, I don’t want a new driver in a pick up truck. I know this is TGR and all, but frankly those fucking things suck to drive, and are not as safe compared to a typical sedan/hatchback.
