    Wagon Stoke

One of the great climbing and BC skiing gear designers of the 80’s/90’s used to buy 240 that were lawn ornaments, restore them, and resell at profit. Off-season, he’d have various Volvo parts organized in the ski shop organized by various projects.

Hey! I know that building! My office was right nextdoor to Shobe. Loved living there! Thanks for the memories and wagon stoke.

    Question:

My mom did a small number on the 2014 Jetta Wagen TDI. Fortunately, nothing crazy and the struts needed to be swapped anyway.

So what suspension do I go with? Something sport oriented? OEM (boring!)? One of those lift kits to give it another inch of height in combo with the OEM setup?

Trying to look at this debacle as a chance to make that little bastard just a little more exciting for when I use it for road trips, etc.

Edit: I live in the mountains so snow and gravel roads should be considered. Mom bottomed out the front end going up a road she shouldn’t have and damaged the bumper and front passenger strut.

Guy had forge on a Alltrack at local hill. He liked it and said it rode good. Looked good as well. That’s all I got. I have a stock Alltrack since I’m still under warranty and not willing to try it

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

If I had any confidence in that drivetrain one of those would be sitting in my garage. Great looking car.

What's your reluctance? I almost have my wife talked into a test drive.

Supercharged, turbocharged, hybrid; it's a complicated engine and a lot is asked of it. Anecdotally, one of the more engineering savvy youtubers (savagegeese) owned a newer XC90 and liked it but loathed the time it spent in the shop even in the warranty period. He traded it in on an X7 if that tells you anything.

Yeah. That spooks me too. I DO want a V60 P* and all but it will be CPO only with the 10 year, unlimited mile warranty, that's for sure. ...post car market crash of course so I can actually afford it. Haha.

Savagegeese's experience is definitely something to take into account. Post-warranty, no freaking way.

Sheesh, that's really saying something. As the former owner of not one but 3 X5 lemons (one of which the Bavarians bought back from me), hearing that someone actually took that product as the better, more stable, option is really shocking.

Yup, I hear ya, that is ultimately what dissuaded me from buying a newer V90XC and going to the dark side. Volvo really is asking a lot from that little 4 banger.

Years ago when we bought our (2nd) XC70, we were going back and forth with the stealership sales manager on an extended warranty, she said "look I'm not lying, I haven't seen an extended warranty not pay for itself yet". We got it and it turns out she wasn't lying (new transmission).

Did you notice it has a salvage title ? I wonder what the story is behind that.

When I had my V50, I hit a snow marker on the side of the highway and broke a headlight and a couple trim pieces. The insurance company tried to total it due to the combination of Volvo's absolute lack of resale value and high parts replacement prices. The OEM headlight was over 1600 bucks alone as an example. Doesn't take much to total a car that has a resale value of pennies. I ended up avoiding a salvage title but barely. Car was worth 8k and the repair ended up being 7800 ....... for a headlight and two R Design trim pieces painted to match.

Agreed. I have an XC90 with the hybrid T8 drivetrain. It’s gonzo as soon as the warranty is out. Hasn’t been in the shop too much, but I’ve only had it for a year. Click image for larger version.

What problems have you had and what are you looking at for a replacement? 95% sure our next mom mobile is going to be a plug in hybrid.

The “water heater” went down. It’s the heater that warms the antifreeze so you have heat when the motor isn’t running. Took over two months to get the part. Small electrical glitches here and there that have resolved themselves. Mainly I’m worried about the overworked 4 cyl motor and the 4 corner air suspension. I really like the car, not the most exciting thing I’ve ever had, but so far it does it’s job really well.

Another horror story on the X7 here. I bought my wife one when we sold our business. It was in the shop ~4 times in 6 months. That shop was 2.5 hours away and they paid to tow it every time. She ultimately hit a blown tire in the interstate which taco’ed the million dollar radiator. We sold it back to the dealer while it was in the shop and she went back to a Tahoe.

That X7 was beautiful to drive but holy turd wagon….

So the guy that bought my 07' S4 manual is looking to sell it. It's been stored indoors it's entire life and has 36,000 original miles. It was imported from the US to Canada but the cluster is still in MPH, all it got really was daytime running lights. It has a tune and exhaust from a shop in California, I don't remember the details but he's got the entire service record. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll put you in touch... I tried to upload a picture from my phone but it didn't work...
