I was driving in slow traffic next to one of these for a few blocks yesterday. Absolutely immaculate! Had the red interior and everything - classic!

Doug Demuro is a total D, but man he's got some sweet wagons on his auction site:
Hurry! This 80k mile gem of faux wood paneling and chrome ends in just under 2 hours.

Wagon Stoke
Wifey’s old ride
Wifey’s current ride. 2017 Outback 3.6 touring. Really glad we bought when the 3.6 was available. Thing came loaded, and priced accordingly (42k) Payments hurt, but last one is in August.
I’ve been driving the wagon a bunch over the past few months after blowing the motor in my ‘08 impreza. Great power, but kinda hate the CVT, and corners like a bus. Still heads and shoulders above my impreza.
Not a wagon, but pretty stoked on my impreza replacement, a ‘21 WRX Limited 6m.
Parting shot of the ‘08. I was on my way to Loveland, motor blew around Herman Gulch, and limped it into the Basin lot. Slow-rolled it back into the driveway in Georgetown where it sat for 2 months till I finally donated it to make-a-wish. The only time in 20 years driving subies I’ve needed a tow.
It’s not what you do but the way that you do it, the motors you blew but the way that you blew it!
Obviously I can’t be buying myself a new car without the wife getting something, so ordered a 2nd set of wheels for snows for both cars. Expensive month!

When the motor in my Subaru blew I drove (very slowly and noisily) another 20 miles home. The noise was awesome

Wagon Stoke
So I’m now six years into my 2015 Outback. It’s just crossed 100k miles. Overall it’s a value at the premium trim level.
Specifically. It’s been dependable as any car I have had. Including Honda’s. However, I also, as mentioned in a post above, do not like the CVT. Especially when it’s cold. The seats after 6 years are still uncomfortable. They have been updated in the 2020 models and are better. Power in the standard 4 cyl is meh! It’s tough as hell. Has as much cargo space and ground clearance as my wife’s Highlander.
I have since acquired a 2014 Volvo S60 to remind me what a standard trans with 250hp feels like.
The Suby is now the family work hauler and Home Depot car. It fits that bill like a champ. It can be used and abused. Would I buy another? Not so sure. Maybe?Last edited by Labcabin; 06-27-2021 at 10:09 AM.

Subaru: I had a 2000 Legacy GT wagon. Underpowered, crummy transmission, uncomfortable seats, looked good, capable, and sold it at 110K.
IME, needed repairs at the same rate as the BMWs I owned. Parts were cheaper (labor same; had Indy mechanic). My overall experience with Subaru was just OK.
Has the brand improved a lot in 20 years? (BTW, I don’t think BMW has improved a lot in 20 years.)

I don't think they've improved much in the past 20 years. I have a friend that bought his wife a brand new Ascent. It burns more oil than my Stihl on a cold start. He drives a newer Outback. His high opinion of Subie was based on the venerable 2.2/MT combo. I don't think he realizes the new one is a POS but I told him to check the dipstick often.

Buh Bye 06 manual S4.
Engine check light went on, drove it 6 miles to get an analyzer, caught on fire right as I pulled in home.
911 & Fire department visit, fire wouldn't go out with a hose.
Toast as they say.
Bought it with 65k on the clock for $25k. Currently reads 166k.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

Bought it October 2013, so it's been almost 8 years.
I beat the shit out of my cars, spend money to maintain them too, but that has been my main ski car over the last 7 winters. A fantastic sled for the freeway cruises as well as Red Mountain Pass and CR110 to Silverton Mountain.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski
