    Rowdy Roddy Piper-RIP

    my all time favorite wrestler.
his 'gift of gab' was legendary, and he was a total badass in the ring.
Macho Man, Ric Flair and Piper, the best of all time.

    Oh no... so sad!

Heart attack at 61. Such a hard life for those guys, even the ones who "do it right" don't survive

Ah man - I'll lift a dram in his honor. Was a huge fan back in the early 80s.

FKNA. One of those cheesy movies that when it came on Saturday afternoons everyone in my dorm would stop what they were doing and watch. Only the old WWF would teach acting of this caliber:

You left out Mr. Perfect, but otherwise, I agree.

I figured drinking the last dram of a Pinch bottle gotten at Christmas would be fitting.

Yup. There's something like looking at a train wreck sensation you get from seeing what these guys become in their relative old ages. RIP Piper.

RIP RRP. So ends the reign of the only guy that could successfully rock a leather biker jacket and kilt. Just when you thought you knew the answer, the big man changed the question.

Roddy was also based in Los Angeles for a while back in the 70s. He used to face off against local favorite Chavo Guererro regularly. Some great fucking dialog!

That was pretty great. Never seen that movie.

I am slightly surprised at Wickstad being a fan but hey why not?

I knew Iron Mike Popovich. Worked for his dad at Mt. Hood. Very odd guy.

That scene was just after Piper killed a bunch of the aliens who were masquerading as humans and it was known by Keith David's character that Piper was the assailant. I think it started at a bank.

Heard an absolutely great story about RRP while listening to a Cincinnati radio station on iHeartradio.com today. Radio host is a guy I generally detest, and was/is a criminal defense attorney. Apparently back in the day he had quite the 'in' with the wrastlers that would come into town and perform. Roddy's promoter or agent or whatever calls the host at some late hour and said Roddy was arrested for DUI in Northern Kentucky (across the Ohio river from Cincy for the geographically challenged). It was during the days where these type of charges could be worked out relatively quickly and not at all like it is today.

Apparently Roddy shows up for court wearing a blazer and a University of Kentucky t shirt underneath, trying to curry favor with the judge. As the story went he completely charmed the shit out of everyone in the courtroom with the radio host representing him and when it came time for the judge's decision the judge said that he was impressed by all of his 'good works' and his remorse for his offense that had been presented, but...

The judge said, "I do have one issue, and that's with your attire. You see sir, I'm a proud University of Louisville alumni, and I don't appreciate your attempt by wearing that garish UK shirt".

Roddy then blurts out, "your Honor, allow me to rectify the situation" and takes off his blazer, then tears off the UK shirt to reveal a Louisville Cardinals shirt he had on underneath. As the story was told the courtroom erupted into laughter and the judge was completely impressed. All charges dismissed minus a fine.

Afterwards counsellor asks him, how did you know that would happen? Roddy exclaimed, "I didn't, I was playing the odds here in Kentucky and figured I better have all my bases covered!"

    Good stuff.
