    Anything can be hacked

First Ashley Madison, now this. Perhaps we should be less hard on pio, his Pilot may have been hacked.

It seems like they are not adequately isolating systems from each other. Why would sat radio have ANY physical connection to your ecu beyond power? Who the fuck is designing this shit, and why do they still have a job?

I guess I missed the part about being able to log into your car via WiFi. I guess that's kinda cool since you can see all the systems and whatnot. Obviously, they need to make it so it can send and not receive.

Makes me glad that neither of our cars is connected to the web. Never really understood the need for that.

Shit, airplanes can be hacked. A car seems trivial.

It's a Fiat-Jeep, what could possibly go wrong?

Maybe I'm confusing another story but wasn't there some doubt cast on that guy on the plane's story?

I didn't hear anything, aside from what I read in that wired story.

It's a weakness due to On-Star, or at least being on-star capable. Since On-Star can connect to your vehicle to unlock doors, locate a stolen car and disable it, etc., the security associated with it has been exploited. It took them a while to do it though.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

    On-star is a GM product.

    But basically you're correct.

I'm more worried about the dangers associated with consumers updating their car software than the actual hackers.

I know a guy with a Tesla. He told me the software gets updated overnight--they can tell when the car is in his garage hooked to the charger and they make updates over wifi. i.e., when he first got the car it didn't creep in D with the foot off the brake and accel like a gas engined car. They downloaded some new software one night and the next day it did.

I have a Ford that has the same problem. Was about to take it to dealer. Could you ask your mate to put the software on a floppy disc and mail it to me?
