I've told this story before but I was attending my son's med school graduation in DC. He was off for a little vacation before starting residency in Sacramento and asked us to take a suitcase with his AF uniforms and some other stuff back to CA with us. The suitcase was too heavy so I transferred some stuff, including a rolled up dress uniform, into my carry on. The bag didn't make it through the xray machine. The TSA agent searched the bag and didn't find anything. Xrayed it again with the same result. Finally figured out there was a bottle of bourbon rolled up in one of the uniforms. My wife chatted with the very friendly, understanding agent and took off with the bourbon. I figured she was off to drink it all and that would be the last I'd see of her. She showed up at the gate just in time, carryon bag filled with multiple 3 oz baggies of bourbon, none of which leaked miraculously. (The can of spray starch in the checked bag didn't fare so well--sprayed all over everything in his bag.)

Hahaha. Thanks for making me laugh so hard this morning. I'm sending that to my MIL. She probably won't get the joke, but will still be worth it.

This is the rare instance where it's actually okay to question the validity of a service animal, though.

Hahaha. Love the honey badger introduction to this vital thread. Probably my favorite animal in the wild kingdom. Who remembers this classic?:

Not too many animals out there that run around screwing with lions, cobras, scorpions, and african bees. They seriously crack me up. Love the Sisqo haircut they rock too as they go trotting around the savannah.

The peacock story is getting a lot of media play. Sounds like a critical mass is building up to do something about the problem. Hope legit owners don't get caught in the backlash. But isn't that always the way? Assholes do asshole things, regulations are developed to deal with the assholes, which makes life more difficult for the majority non-assholes. Every time you see a regulation that makes no sense or seems to be particularly onerous, remind yourself that that regulation wouldn't be there if someone hadn't done something stupid or evil to make it necessary.

The nice thing about the internet is that it makes public shaming possible like it was when we all lived in villages.

Before Belen Aldecosea flew home from from college to South Florida, she twice called Spirit Airlines to ensure she could bring along a special guest: Pebbles, her pet dwarf hamster. No problem, the airline told her.

But when Aldecosea arrived at the Baltimore airport, Spirit refused to allow the tiny animal on the flight.

With her only friends hours away at campus, Aldecosea was stuck. She says an airline representative suggested flushing Pebbles down an airport toilet, a step that Spirit denies. Panicked and needing to return home promptly to deal with a medical issue, Aldecosea unsuccessfully tried renting a car and agonized for hours before doing the unthinkable.

    She flushed Pebbles.

That will be a fun lawsuit... assuming they didn't offer to let her board the hamster for $... and that a subpoena of her credit card records doesn't find that she purchased the hamster a few days before the flight.

She’s the one who killed Pebbles, not Spirit Airlines, regardless of whether they suggested it or not.

Sounds like they did screw up in telling her that she could bring the rodent.

People have to get over thinking that everyone owes their pet equal rights to humans.

    Fake Service Dogs......

I dont understand why she didn't just smuggle the hamster on board by sticking it up her ass hole like everyone else does

If people can bring a fucking toy poodle (not a service dog) on-board in a carry-on and stow it under their seat why can't she bring a midget rat?
