I'm still stunned at how awful that first penalty kick was.

    No shit!

BTW, I'm at the Japan v Netherlands game right now, and the Dutch choked twice in 5? minutes early on right in front of us. It's gonna be waaaay hard to come back against the precise Japanese.

Just noticed Canada gets England in the next round. That's got to be a dream match-up for the host nation eh?

They could play in order: Canada, Australia, U.S.

Oddly the best website to keep track of the tournament is Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_F...39;s_World_Cup

Of all the misogyny on this board, and on this very thread, THAT is what you choose to pick on? that's funny.

We dumped cable/satellite TV this year, so I've been missing most of the games, which is too bad. I love watching the women's game, almost no diving, aggressive play, smart play, some awesome goalkeeping, it's got everything the men's game has without the fucking egos that constantly get in the way of better soccer. Male athletes at that level tend to be a bunch of primadonnas.

For anyone unimpressed with the women's game I suggest watching Japan and or Germany. Japan especially was really good, they even practice after the game.

Great game going on right now, I have no idea who's going to win, France or Germany.

Nice match tonight, ladies. Always good to get a win without Rapinoe and Wambach (basically.)

    That was a good game.

Too many missed opportunities, but they did enough to advance, and that's how the tournament is played.

Yeah ,that was just a solid goal.

I'm sure some bro here will find something to criticize in it, but that was journeymen level soccer.

Great goal, but yes, lots of missed opportunities.

The offense was on all game though.

That's the hardest part of the game, IMO. You have to play aggressive offense for 90 minutes, merely for a reasonable chance of getting one, maybe two goals. But they did that tonight, and have reaped the rewards.

Agreed, and measured in time in China's 1/3 of the field it was no contest. Great job keeping the pressure on by the ladies all game.

Commentators were saying it was China's strategy to drop back everyone and clog their end, that sounds pretty risky to me and really exhausting.

that's the thing, the USA has failed to finish about 10 goals that they usually convert. For example, they had a bunch of great chances against China in the first half and if 2 of those go in, it is a rout and everyone's talking about how the offense finally woke up... Same thing really, all tournament long.

One example is Alex Morgan, she's about 1/2 step slow this year - or she'd have 5 goals already.
... jfost is really ignorant, he often just needs simple facts laid out for him...

Not sure why FIFA put the top three teams (Germany, US, France) in the same half of the bracket.

This is the same FIFA that was just hit with Corruption scandal and resignation of their newly re-elected President Blatter (but then he claimed after he did not resign)...

I thought the draw was random. If so they didn't "put" them anywhere.
