I Must Be Snow White
First it was the Pheasants and Quail eating at my bird feeders. Then it was the Mull deer by the dozens who come to sleep and forage behind my house during the day now I have wild turkey resting on my back steps.
The Walla Walla river is on my property but it's a good 1/4 mile from my house. Not sure why they come all the way up here through the hay and wheat fields, past the barn and the shade of the cottonwoods and locust trees to sleep 10ft from my back door.
Good thing we don't have Javelina!
Edit: and the skunks - I forgot those critters. Lots of them. They love it here

a petting zoo seems like a more relaxing experience - imagine petting otters and foxes...maybe even a nile monitor

Cleaver, wasn't it?
LOL! My cats are totally freaked out by the turkey. I put them out a moment ago on the patio (turkey was in the back yard) but then the turkey got up and went for a stroll around the side by the patio and now they are clamoring to come back in the house. They're eyes are as big as saucers watching it.

When I read the thread title, this song plays in my head for some reason:

NTTIAWWT but here on my farm it is strictly a no hunting zone.
LOL! Now I'm going to have nightmares
D'oh! Just had one!
Interesting. Maybe if I blast that song the turkey will go away. Dang thing is acting like it owns the place. Came up from the barn after evening chores and it was in the middle of the drive just staring at me then it casually walked down the front walk to the patio and started pecking at my herbs. Currently it is sitting on my back porch. Seems kind of odd for a hen to be wandering around alone this time of year. You think she'd be sitting on a nest or herding around poults.

first sentence reminded me of the pheasant/quail/andouille gumbo i had two weeks ago at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. Damn good.
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

O-M-G the damn turkey is on the roof now! Big fat feet with big fat talons scrambling over a metal roof - sounds like Armageddon.

Get a dog, no more turkey...
The Rafter lives farther up the hill for the last few years. Lost our two dogs in a 14 month span and the hens were looking around late last year with their poults. Keen to see where they roosted this year.
Re-introduced in 1977 – now we have two hunts a year. Have a high percentage of bow hunters in the area and they are into it. About 3000 taken in NJ every year.
Have about 25 head of white tail. Never migrate, pretty much stay within a 3k radius from where they are born. This winter was easy; hard winters they coalesce. I clip my ornamental trees late jan, early feb and the whole famdamly show up and stay for a few days. Not much to pick up when they’re done. It’s illegal to feed them here.
Picked up a fox under the porch over the winter, but they are shy and he won’t be back till it gets cold again.
A bear tried to take the grille apart this week - did a pretty good job of it too. Catch pan was full as we grill all winter and it lured him in. He got the throw away aluminum catch of course, but then he removed the whole base collector element of the grille and savored the drippings. I was able to recycle the catch pan. What a gentleman.
I’ve had the opportunity to watch bear decimate a few picnics and dumpsters in our national parks. Amazingly articulate for an animal of that size without apposing digits.
Have to thank him for cleaning the grille next time run into him.

Wanna know how I know you're not in the Mid-Atlantic?
That's a shitload of GOOD free food walking around your property. My best friend has a farm in the Piedmont part of MD and he absolutely enhances his dietary protein with what the land (and creek) provides. I always have critter for dinner at his house.
