So you would NEVER live in Texas?
My buddy from college just sold this house.
Holy shit, $84 a sq ft- 6600 sq ft with indoor pool, 4 car garage, lakefront, 4 bedroom, 4 bath.
Put this house anywhere else, and it is easily over $1mm.

Last week I was in Houston. This week: Beaumont and Jasper.
The correct answer is: NO...FUCK NO!!!!It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

I would never, ever live in that state. Fuck Texas.
It's not the geography (everything but the west sucks though)...it's the populace and political climate. They think I do not know a buttload of crap about the Gospel, but I do.

The most important factors in real estate are location, location, location. Take away all 3 and you're left with Texas.

I don't know, the 100 buck annual HOA fee doesn't get you very much.

I agree, Fuck Texas, but I just got back from some meetings where one of the topics (very briefly discussed) was the reality that Texas, politically, is turning purple, and may soon turn blue. I still wouldn't live there, but changing the politics would remove at least one of th ereasons many ratoinal people wouldn't live there.

My neighbors just got transferred to Houston. Made a tidy profit on the house they sold (Denver area) and bought one of those "McMansions" in the Houston area for less than what they paid for the house they had here. More sq. footage, pool, etc. No state income tax but property tax is ridiculous.
And it's Texas. The Sheriff is near!

Mrs Cruiser often shows me facebook "friends" homes in Texas and it never ceases to amaze me what you can get for the $$$ down there if you're willing to live outside of the center of town. But then her sister / bro-n-law just bought a place in University Park in Dallas and spent nearly $1mm for a 2k sqft place built in the 40's. The house is, no shit, 100' from hwy 75 and shares a fence with a large church. I was floored when I saw the listing for the place.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.

You know reading these posts sounds similar to what folks say to me about living in North Carolina. However, I never understood what exactly in "politics" folks find so offensive. Although there was a black mark for the whole gay marriage amendment thing, for the most part I find everyone pretty much sticks to their own damn business. I find Texas to be the same way. It may have a reputation as right wing, guns etc. all of which I'm personally fine with but many parts of texas I go to, have diversity on all levels. I have worked in "liberal" cities and for the most part if you are just a working stiff most shit is the same. I for one like my big city wages without the expenses of coastal towns, but I see the merits of both.
However, pretending shit is any different anywhere in america is a joke.
This week there was google racist map and guess what, the northeast was deemed as racist as the southeast. Rednecks in Maine and Idaho give a texas redneck and appalachian redneck a run for their money also.
I guess if you want state sponsored methadone and needles like Portland, Dallas isnt your town. But if you want to make good wages and not pay out the ass for a small house and have money to save to retirement, there are worse places to live.
