It's cedar that's been sealed/stained (not painted, [sorry, not clear on that]), and I need to re-seal/stain it. IMVHO, it doesn't look "weathered," it looks "shitty."
Besides being told I "should," I figured sanding it first would make my seal/stain application last longer. Again, what the hell do I know (besides I hate all of you)? Nothing.
So, do I buck up and rent a belt sander when I go back to Home Repo and rent a goddamn power washer because you guys told me to, or fuck the sanding because you guys will think I'm gay if I sand it?

there are only 5 painted fences in all of colorado, how should I know what he want's to do.
besides, I think I've been giving him really good smart ass fucking advice, no?"It is not the result that counts! It is not the result but the spirit! Not what - but how. Not what has been attained - but at what price.

if its not painted or going to be painted dont sand it.
the sealer goes deep into the wood, impregnates it really, and you wouldn't be doing much but working your arm by sanding. sanding is to smooth out the hard edges between exposed wood and old paint that doesn't scrape off.
in what way does the fence look shitty?
color?
is it rotting?
moldy?

Fuck the sanding: Got it. Consider it fucked.
It looks shitty in that the color is off (kind of a weather-beaten, mildew-y grey look) and it's getting kind of splintery.
PS. I am not a rancher.

i forgot you dont have humidity.
okay, other option, its sun damage.
no need to powerwash. if some bords are splintery, replace them with new vertical grain cedar. then re-seal. its a good idea to use the same sealer that has been used to date for sealing the fence.

yeah, at this point just go with your gut instinct. the first choice is usually correct when no one really knows what the fuck they are talking about.
sand it up!
save the sand created; its for insertion into your vagina when you've had enough sanding and want to come on the board and vent.

Dude, you are totally going to be putting in a brand new fence anyway cause there's no way this one won't get fucked. Sanding a standing fence is going to be ass work too dude. ASS

I just doublechecked and there is definitely a bit of mildew in one section, probably from our neighbors retarded sprinkler addiction. This thread is quickly becoming the wide-brake P18 thread of fence maintenance.

This has gotten out of control. I'm going to send some resumes out instead of fixing the fence. Fuckit.
