End-Of-Life Purchases
No, I'm not dying, and this isn't about funeral plots or coffins. But I did have a birthday the other day and I'm officially old as a motherfucker now, so I'm trying to buy shit that will last the duration. Quality shit that will last longer than me. I started on this idea a while ago, so not all of this stuff is new.
Vanson Remington Leather Pea Jacket. http://www.vansonleathers.com
There's actually a whole thread where I try to find the perfect leather jacket. This is it. Or any Vanson, depending on your style.
It will be about broken in by the time I die. I actually sent it out to get beat up and it came back way stiffer than most jackets start out. Made in Fall River, MA USA.
No epaulets on mine.
Wolverine 1000 Mile Boot
Ankle height black leather lace-up boot. You need 'em. Made in USA.
Filson Medium Duffle. Made in USA.
http://www.filson.com/products/duffl...aProduct=1019/
Corter Black Bifold Wallet
http://shop.corterleather.com/collec...d-triple-black
^^^ This is the item that caused the list. Got it a few days ago. Last wallet I'll ever buy I'm sure.
All of this stuff has leather but that makes some kind of sense, leather takes a while to work in and the leather in all of these products is insanely thick strong and cool.
So whatchu got?

Not sure about those jeans but the maul is a keeper.
Can't imagine I'll need another one of these:

I just got a bill for a pair of 250 dollar crutches and a 170 dollar knee brace, both of which I used for maybe two days. But, I guess I'm set for those two items for life.

I've had the same pair of sorels since I was like 13 and I'm 38 now. I used to do my paper route in them, and I still wore them to work every day it snowed hard this winter. They're still holding up.

@KQ:That fucker will need to be replaced at some point, count on it.
An old Gravely would go the distance though

I don't know. Rather sit. Cup holder would be nice, too.

I've had the Filson duffle for about 20 years and expect it to last at least another 20 and with their repair program, I think it'll be a hand me down to my oldest son, who is 5.

I have a pair of hestras that were well-used when I skimmed 'em off the top of a lost and found bin in 1997. Still good to go.

@abraham: Well you can resole them, that's within the rules. Keeping shit maintained is part of the deal.

I still use the bauer hockey bag I was given by my uncle when I started hockey at age 10. It's my laundry bag now, but it's seen a lot of hard duty.

I have a pair of Kingswood Fats. Best skis ever. 10 years old and as good as Day One. They will be buried with me.

We need a pic of those OG boots. I grew up with a pair, made it through college and a few years at Alta, but they got lost along the way.
I put on a Canondale long sleeve jersey the other day and realized I pulled it of the PDog lost and found in 1998. Still a great jersey.
Overall, I think it's getting much harder to find shit that lasts.

Oh! We're not so much talking about things that are a good investment re: durability but things we've had and still use and expect to use for years to come. Okay.. I've got (and use) my grandmother's Lodge cast iron dutch oven she rec'd as a wedding gift in 1929 and a beautiful slipper chair from the 1930s (again, Grandma's) that I've had upholstered . It is still going strong and is still a very comfortable chair!
