Your right in all you've said. The reason why their ski guide exam seems difficult is because a number passed their ski guide portion of the IFMGA that could barely ski, or had no experience with snow, ie... They were decent at Rock climbing but not with snow, most being from back east. There is a guide in Aspen that is a perfect example, an IFMGA certed guide but can't ski or has little understanding of snow, so he got a client killed. So those that made up the ski guide exams had to tell many would-be guides that before they can take the ski guide exam they need to learn how to ski. Because a lot couldn't ski a lick.
It costs over $30 grand for all the courses if you want full cert.

Curious if the OP or anyone else has started/progressed/finished the AMGA ski guide program, and what the experience was?
