    Spend $300-400 on a decent used mirrorless body and another $100-$200 on a used fast prime. I’m new to this photography stuff but I think you’d be much happier with the results than most of the $400 point and shoots.

    Should be able to find one of the early gen Sony rx100's for around that price point. 1" sensor and full manual control if you want it would make it decent in low light.

    Pocket-Sized, Rugged, Point-and-Shoot, with Manual settings

    Older Panasonic LX7 has a fast 1.4 Leica lens, 24-90mm equivalent, manual capabilities and can be had for under $200. At that price, you can bring it wherever you want...
