I've had some great days in the rain. good wax, good outerwear, mountain to myself. of course, I don't ride 100 days a year or get bc pow but as long as I'm not cold and I can slide it's okay by me.

Well the rain in Mammoth and surrounding areas was a blessing with that fire. And just to play keep up-Mammoth got basically 9-11" snow with who knows how much rain? Bizarre/Tragic to have a raging fire destroy 30+ homes in a flash and then get rain ?

Not lame, snow generally skis well provided there's coverage.
Thinking that Gore-Tex will keep up is lame OTOH.
Full rain suit with gloves = dressing for success, or fun at least.
These with the matching pants are well worth the money spent.
Round it out with a pair of these and you will stay dry all day long (unless you sweat heavily and tend to overdress).

Does Grizz even exist anymore? My first winter in Fernie was 99/00. That was just after Fernie Snow Valley became Fernie Alpine Resprt and It was evident that Grizz no longer factored in Charlie Locke's plans.
Grizz was awesome. A little fur clad ripper who shot his gun into the sky for more pow. Seems like much of the west coast could go for a lottle Grizz right about now.

I have a prime rain ski day in the forecast for Friday. what's the general consensus on trying to stay somewhat dry and un-hypothermic? One of those huge black garbage bags seems like the best bet.

My gear keeps me dry enough for 3 or 4 hours of rainy hell. As much as I would be out.

Whistler has garbage bags with their logo and arm and neck holes already cut and only a dollar. That is way too prepared for rain for me.

for me it's always the hands that get bothered, make sure you have some legitimately dry gloves. these look dumb as hell but are pretty sweet https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With the right attitude and the right timing it can be very fun. Had a couple days at both Mt. Hood Meadows and Crystal last year during a badly-timed ski trip, as a pineapple punch was massacring the PNW.
Mind you, I was with friends and we were skiing on acid those days, so that might've helped deal with the crotch-soaking downpour we endured...
... but really I think it has to be corn-snow skiing for it to be worth it, otherwise it can just be downright hazardous to your body.

is it lame to ski in the rain?
I love skiing in the rain. Some of my best memories as a racer was skiing with garbage bag ponchos on wet race days. I remember you didn't want to fall on a steep slope wearing those bags or you would quickly slide out of control.
Also came to add my friend Chris's words. Glad to see someone beat me to it 3 years ago...
