I once dated a gal from Alaska who was earning her MA from Oregon St. She had honking huge bazongas and liked to be spanked. That's about all I can remember about Corvallis.
Daniel Ortega eats here.

It's a college town with nothing else
It's a couple hours to get to skiing
It's an hour to fishing, couple to good fishing
Pretty good biking within an hour
I wouldn't live there (but I'm not in school or partnered with someone who is)

None.
Size wise, it's similar to Vernon, or Kamloops, or PG, but it's absolutely nothing like those towns. The Willamette Valley is wine country, so the climate is similar to the Okanagan, but without the really hot summer days, and generally milder winters.
If I had to live around there, I'd look at Salem and Eugene before Corvallis.

Plenty of smaller communities around Corvallis to live in that are cheaper and don't have the college town vibe. Surrounding area is primarily agricultural."These are crazy times Mr Hatter, crazy times. Crazy like Buddha! Muwahaha!"

Nice college town. Good place to live.
2 hour drive for good skiing at Bachelor.
1 hour drive to Newport, the shore, ocean fishing, aquarium (if you have kids).
Good fishing and camping in the Suislaw Forest nearby.

Well, they're both drive-through towns for me (I'm in Bellingham and my family is in southern OR and CA) so my experience is superficial, but it just seems like Salem is more of a real town, whereas Corvallis seems more like OSU is the only thing happening there. Kinda like Bellingham actually, but without the mountains or ocean. I dunno, just my observation.

don't listen to another word from anybody who says Salem before Corvallis. Salem is a shithole. Corvallis is a nice town if you're a mellow person.

FTR, I just said I'd "look at" Salem and Eugene.
What makes Salem a shithole?

The drive to hoodoo ski bowl (a small shitty ski area that features low elevation and plenty of rain ) was close to a 2 hr drive with traffic. As google map will tell u, driving on to Bachelor is another 75+ mins. Remember that Oregon has el sucko speed limits that they like to enforce.
If I had to live in Oregon for some reason, I'd move back to Bend, or Portland, or Eugene in that order.
