What, the lack of avy control?…Normal… It's a european thing. Pists and lifts are maintained and the terrain over them if a slide threatens them. Otherwise its game on in the mtns.

RIP young guns. I skied that slope last time I was in Europe. Backcountry like skiing between 2 slopes, very tempting,

Did you mean to say that skiing in that terrain in these conditions is crazy? Doubt a beacon would have helped. 3-4 meters deep.

Bryce is in the red jacket, his brother Chris is right next to him in green (They have one older than them, Jason). I'm so happy and glad I got to rip around with these little groms back in the day...just about 13 years ago now. By far one of THE best jobs I've had in my life yet. AYC's youngest group!
So much love and sympathy to both families at this most difficult time. RIP.

    Sad day indeed.

Yurp is not America. The marked runs are controled, groomed and ungroomed. The rest is best considered slack country. Not that a beacon would have helped, but it is necessary for much very accessible area in Europe, as is avi skills and knowledge.

This is also a good time to remember to ping inbounds on big days or during sketchy conditions. Inbounds avis do happen, and slack country is back country even if you are next to the lifts or pistes.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
