Hamtramck is a fairly dense town of mostly detached single and multi-family houses occupied originally mostly by autoworkers, certainly not rich, but well-maintained. Not a slum by any means. I don't know what it's like today but given the high number of immigrants I suspect it is still that way. It is a self governing city, independent of Detroit.

Detroit itself is unusual among big cities for the high number of detached single and multifamily houses in its core--of course a lot of those houses are now in poor repair, or gone. Compared to industries like meat packing in Chicago or the garment industry in NYC the auto industry at one time supported a relatively prosperous working class--both Black and White.

Benny--have you been to Hamtramck? Detroit? Detroit Metro area?

Nodine Hill in Yonkers, NY. Wasn't a ghetto back in the day. The Poles and Czechs are gone now so who knows.

Please try to educate me on the NY garment industry and worker living conditions as I'm probably biased. Family has been the the NY garment industry since my Canadian grandpa got a job at Harmony Mills when he was 10. He was the first to live in the company housing so there is that good I guess. His son ran a textile mill in Georgia in the '60's. Had to sleep with a gun as he was hiring Blacks. Had a great uncle from Gloversville that owned a glove factory. And HIS son ran a tee shirt import biz out of the Empire State Building. My pop was a bra salesman and when I was selling shirts for a factory in Boston some of my customers would say they could get shirts at 1/2 the price that were made in NYC. They could, but the shirts came out of immigrant sweatshops and home piece workers.

Fascinating. I'd love to pick your brain and hear what you think are ways that maggots can make a difference in the world when choosing what bike wear and ski wear to buy.

Doesn't sound like you need any educating. As you know, sweatshops and doing piece work at home was one of the most common jobs for newly arrived immigrants in NYC. Life was and is hard for immigrants everywhere but probably more so in NYC than some other places.

I don't know. Plenty of public transportation, so, no car needed. Plenty of work available. Lots of "your own kind", so isolation isn't too much of a problem. Good public education system that rewarded the smart and hard working. I could think of worse places.

I'm tired of you using the term "negroes" like it's the 50s simple and plain. You don't know me or why that offends me but please believe I'm not just virtue signaling .

Poor little snowflake. Like walking on eggs around people like you. Your head must fucking explode when you listen to Redd Foxx. So fucking boring. A big reason I can't live in a ski town. Living around gentle souls like yourself. Or, is it Portland? Seattle? Your mom's basement?

No . My wife is . My kids are mixed . Most of my extended family is black. I think you are probably a nice enough guy but in my opinion you look like an ignorant cunt using outdated terms like negro especially in this thread. Feel free to do whatever you like it's obvious you will never change .
