Why is Ski School such a business?
Just kind of wondering what your take is? Especially those who are in the know.

You could say I'm in the know. What I don't know is what the fuck you are asking. Rephrase your question with nekkid pics of wife/gf/mom/sis/grandma and I will drop some knowledge...
Also, why is this in Padded Room?

I know words can be hard sometimes, HBM. But slow down, try again, and edit before hitting post. I'm sure you can post a question that actually makes sense, and a tthis point I'm actually fascinated to know what it is.

Um, greed? There's still some guys/gals in the trenches doing it for the love of the sport but at the pro and org level it's a J-O-B.

I did not think this would be such a versatile discussion...

if you are into the ego stroking/cosseting/lying bullshit scene and all of the distortions it causes have at it, but that's mostly why I hate the assholes here, and generally consider the Aspen scene the epitome of shitty, well represented here. But hey, I've been told "i'm a joke" by a bunch of assholes.

I think ski resorts have too much of a short term profit mindset.
Squaw charges 2300 for kids 5-10 per season.
And they do a great job of teaching then how to become great skiers.
Most kids in the program come from the bay area, and chances are they will live there as adults.
But, in the entire program, there are about 1000 kids, and thats for ages 5-10.
Squaw should bends over backwards to teach kids how to ski well, so when they grow up, they won't even think of going to a different mountain.
But if parents can't afford the steep cost, maybe the kids wil get stuck in the intermediate rut, and squaw is not a good mountain for them.
Anyway, for kids, run the program at lower margins, and teach a lot more kids.
And there is room to cut the price. Instructors make not much more than minimum wage.
Short sighted!

Nobody but rich bay area assholes (or ancillary bay area refugee assholes, or other rich assholes, or some token pros) can afford to ski squaw anyway so it doesn't matter. Unless you are some professional "activist" like Friends of Squaw. This applies to Tahoe and all bro-approved ski palces in the US, and most ski places.
Stikki - even Cricket. check out the pitch to rich Poms/Aussie trash for cricket schools to make their kids champs.

Since everyone here thinks their too sick for lessons, I'll give the viewpoint of the level 1 instructor teaching mainly first time and beginner little ones. I get pretty much two types of clientele; the first are parents who pretty much give you their shitty kids so they can go get sloshed in the adults lounge at 10am in their swaggy fur coats and gucci goggles (I belong to a private ski club, and teach there), and the second group is parents who want to get their get off on the right start, learning some basic fundamentals and techniques from me, that they then go on and try while skiing with their parents later on. My first four ski days involved half day lessons, and they really helped me and I enjoyed them.
I also had a lot of fun in group and semi private lessons out west, that really improved me as a skier while skiing awesome terrain. For anyone who doubts lessons, take a 2 day class with Extremely Canadian at Whistler. A ton of fun, skiing pow and stashes all day, while getting valuable tips. Sometimes the best learning is just watching someone who is a great skier tackle terrain, and try to mimic them.
Instructors at my club make good money, because people there tip them. I once got $200 on Christmas Day for a 1 hour private! One ounce later..."4ply is so quiche"

Yep, that's the way I feel. If I spend a large chunk of change to go to a hill that I give a shit about I don't want to spend the whole vacation teaching my child to ski. Honestly I wouldn't know how without both of us getting frustrated quickly. A professional instructor has been trained to teach people how to ski, knows how to fix technique to make skiing more enjoyable for the student, and how to prepare them for higher level skiing. I took lessons as a kid, my children learned the fundamentals, everyone is happy on the hill. It's also way more fun for social kids to be in a group of peers than to only ski with their parents.
Like someone said: "Why is kids' ski school so expensive? Because it's worth every penny."
