Intellicast, during the day yesterday it showed an usual, but last evening it redirects to wundergound's wundermap. They have a high bar to pass to match what Intellicast's map could do, overlay satellite and radars, storm tracks, models, animations of future weather.

It will be sad to see it disappear.

Edit to add: AccuWeather's website is setup to be a super high-capacity pipeline to deliver ads. It's like their expertise in pushing ads through a web page exceeds their forecasting abilities.

Agree 100%. WU used to have a great system for viewing model loops. Then it all got packaged into the "Wundermap" and went to shit.

And I will ehco Nobody Famous that losing the Intellicast map is sad. their overlay system worked great.

That seems to be the weather channel business model. Corner the market, then just milk the ad money and spend nothing on improvements. Weather.com, accuweather, and underground are all owned my the same company now. Wunderground is moving that way with the thinly veiled "keeping the lights on" shtick.

    I dug this up...
    https://feedback.weather.com/custome...und?b_id=17298

The "the technology and features that you have come to rely on will continue to live on wunderground.com." line is bullshit. I can't find anything remotely resembling the Intellicast weather map interface. It is just the generic Weather Channel regional maps and the Wundermap.

I think the Weather Channel has bought up all of the major competition websites to degrade the online offerings and drive eyes back to TV.

Well I started this thread like 5 years ago to give props to WHDH Boston and their radar is still pretty damn good, not intellicast good, but it's not bad: https://whdh.com/radar/

Compare the forecasts to actual results and they are shockingly good. I’d challenge anyone to try to make better predictions than their local weather forecaster, using only the raw information available. However, many will continue to tout the old lines of, “the only job where you can be wrong 1/2 the time and keep your job”, “I could be a weather man, no one cares if you are wrong”, “they can’t even predict the weather tomorrow, how can they know it’s going to be warmer 20 years from now”. If an investor was as accurate at predicting the market as the average weatherman was the weather, they would be extremely rich.

The Dark Sky app is fairly accurate; seems better than anything else I’ve tried.

Thanks for sharing that Dark sky, gonna add it to the windy.com.

I ended up deleting intellicast after using it for almost 20 years.

Saw this the other day. Will listen to the full audiobook at some point. May eventually be a thread of its own.

+1 for windy.com and its app.

Has a bit of a steep learning curve for really taking advantage of all its features, but has good basic use too for gapers.

Thread bump. I've been getting a little annoyed (yes, I gather this could go in the STAY thread too) that the wunderground "current" intellicast radar maps are sometimes a day or two old. For example, this "Current Radar" page is showing the "intellicast" radar map from yesterday!

A little googling led me to reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/weather/com...ellicast_maps/

In that thread, someone posted the IP address of the old intellicast site. Evidently, the site is still up, just the domain redirects to wunderground.

    http://96.8.93.198/

Here's the real "Current Radar" http://96.8.93.198/National/Radar/Current.aspx

    Enjoy it while it lasts.

Hm. Pretty sure those are the wunderground maps in the intellicast frame or whatever the term is.

I've gotten pretty happy with a combo of https://www.windy.com and https://www.kktv.com/templates/2015_Fullscreen_Radar The second one, I don't even know the name of, or even how I found it, but it's pretty cool. Both have lots of layers available. Windy is slightly more current but the second one has great zoomability and it has a "future" function so you can set it in motion going forward, which windy does not have.

I kind of toggle between them. Windy's not the most user-friendly and it's not that easy to figure out how to access and use the layers but there's a shitload of them. Honestly with these two maps I don't miss intellicast any more.

    Very nice find.

To see the Intellicast map we all remember with layers including model tracks etc., use this:

    http://96.8.93.198/Local/WxMap.aspx

Edit to add: Wow, all the features are back. Future animations, model tracks. Impressive.
