    Weather Radar PSA

Maybe they have this all over the place and I'm clueless, but I'm kind of a freak about weather and I haven't seen weather mapping like this anywhere else:

    http://www.whdh.com/category/271837/...eractive-radar

The different layers you can bring to it, the data from different sources like buoys and ships at sea, the insane detail of the satellite mapping, this shit is a timesuck for me. It's centered on Boston but it's so easy to zoom and pan and go anywhere in the world, don't let that put you off.

You should go to the euro thread and ask about weather sites and resources. There seen to be more weather nerd types hanging around that thread.

The site doesn't seem to work well with my phone. Gonna check it out from home later though.

Worthless without that guy who's predicting earthquakes in Oregon and telephone pole warnings and whatnot.

The other day I told a GF that if I had it to do over again I'd have studied to be a meteorologist. She thought it was the most ridiculous thing she'd ever heard and laughed at me for such a silly thought. She simply could not imagine why on earth I would want to be a meteorologist. .

    Who's Chad?

You might like this site too. Doesn't work very well with the phone either so I can't see if I switch to English. I used to have their app before I switched phones.

I've been enjoying the Intellicast HD app the past couple months. Some modelling to take with a grain of salt, but some fun NA overlays like radar, sat, alerts etc. for the map. Toggling between the surface winds and the upper jet stream is trippy.

I like this one. Water, land temps and snow cover layers are available.

    http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxMap.aspx

The radar is helpful as weather here is in micro climates. and I'm learning. This is me from now until June. A screen cap. If it was a gif it would look about the same as the rain starts here on the way to being snow.
    thnx Capt. Chuck Shunstrom

A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

    Intellicast times three.

If you geek out on weather check out your regions Forecast Discussion on NOAA and the Current Weather section in Accuweather's Forum.

Well intellicast has apparently gone out of business or at least out of the weather map business in the past couple of days, their stuff all redirects to wunderground.com. now. I don't have much experience with the wunderground maps but they seem notably inferior to the intellicast maps, what sites are people using these days for weather?

Since everyone else just repackages NWS data, I generally go right to the source: https://www.weather.gov/

That said, http://wxmaps.org/ has some good stuff.

    Windy.com

It defaults to the ECMWF (euro) model. It's a private company that owns it, so it isn't free, unlike the GFS (NWS). But windy is one of the only places that offers it. You can see the wind forecast visualized at all altitudes. It will give you the 5 day forecast for anywhere. And it lets you compare all the major models.

It's also really pretty to look at.

I've been using AccuWeather. When looking at today's forecast it gives a statement like "rain starting in 37 minutes" or "rain ending in 24 minutes" and seems surprisingly accurate. App has been kind of buggy lately.

I've used Weather underground as well. It has been pretty good.

weather underground has really started to suck shit since the weather channel bought them. On a desktop, in particular, its a buggy slow loading mess. Fuck the weather channel.

I used to walk my dogs is the worst snow storms. They loved the entire routine from being towel dried then hanging out near the fireplace until they were dry.

Turns out they always got excited before as a storm. They were never wrong.

There's a lot of data. They don't do much with it. Not a fan.
