Made an on-line order from the grocery store a couple weeks ago. Choices were 10-15lb turkeys and 16-23lb turkeys, they were out of the 10-15lbers. Only three of us here eat turkey, rolled the dice on the 16-23lb bird hoping for 16.

    Nice!
This year, we are skipping turkey and going with a ham decorated with pineapple rounds cherries and clove. Also, I'll stuff some mushrooms, peppers and artichokes, whip up some mashed sweet potatoes and steam asparagus. For dessert, it's apple pie and rice pudding.

I use to order from a local farm but after too many years of them doing that to me I gave up and now I buy from the grocery store freezer. Those big ones won't fit on my Weber.

Ready to roast! Just the two of us, going to brine a 13lb turkey and smoke it on the BGE with pecan wood. Then make broth with the carcass for turkey soup. Turkey day sandwiches on Friday for riding our first chair rides of the season . Thankful!

You guys don't have parts available??? We're going with 4 thighs (fresh cut, not frozen) on the barby for just the two of us. Whole birds make no sense.

We got a local pasture-raised [not pasteurized ] fresh bird. It was about $5/lb.
Put it into dry brine this evening. We’ll have 6 at the table this year, in accordance with the Gov’s orders...

    Are you ready to Roast?

Just got a 17lb turkey brining in the bucket a moment ago actually. Keeping it outside, so the cold slows the brining process. I like being able to set it and forget it until thanksgiving.

I once raised a turkey that was too big for the oven, so we cut the spine out with a battery operated sawzall and cooked each half on a Weber kettle.

Signed up way in advance for whole foods 'fresh never frozen all-natural' turkey special delivery, went up town at our assigned time to collect, bird had obviously been fully frozen. Everything but the outer 1/8" still frozen. Don't get me started on their customer service and pick up procedure.
In a brine now, and I'm sure will be defrosted in time, and taste great, but I sure hope nobody only discovers the extent of their icebird the day-of and gets jammed.

I had one of those one year. It had a label on it that 34F was the lower limit of “not frozen”

I was pissed mostly because I had no time to properly thaw it and had to do a warm bath on the thing to get it ready

Our go-to (“the turkey lady”) never sent the order email and hasn’t responded to emails. Bummer, but mostly hoping they’re okay. Backup was Polyface, but discovered that they had an anti-vaxx, anti-mask get-together a couple days before pickup so we pulled out. WF turkey was on sale and delivered to our front door.

    Are you ready to Roast?

Just two of us this year. Still going to do all the traditional dishes, but found a turkey breast and a leg to roast. Dry brine starting this am, pies and cranberry sauce today as well.

We couldn’t find a turkey less than 20 lbs either and that seemed ridiculous for two. Lol.
