Suffice it to say that the skills and aptitudes that make one a good carpenter do not translate well in to preparing bids and figuring out estimated taxes every quarter.

managing materials is crazy right now imagine being told they don't have the paint you want you can't get electrical boxes a salesman is hunting down the trim you need because no one is going to bend on what they want and suddenly it's hard to get cabinets and windows need to be ordered 3-6 months before you start the job

Oh get the fuck outta here. You’re so fucking obtuse. I bet you’re this obtuse with your clients too, which is why they’re blowing you the fuck up all the time. Did anything I quoted in fastfred’s post have anything at all to do with the inherent dangers and concomitant emotional trauma of the construction trade?
    focus.

I'd run vertical 4x4s outside of the baseboard ends and a braced 4x10 or sistered 2x10s rafter between them to support whatever that post supports.

That post is perfectly configured for a fire.

I'd only worry if the post is getting charred.

But I'll defer to fastfred on this.

Here’s a pretty good article that explains pyrolysis:

That's what I was thinking too. Easier than messing around with the post, depending what exactly it's doing. But I guess removing the post would look better if that's an option.

This is too obvious a solution. We're looking for something a bit more Upstate here.

You're likely not wrong here. Why is a 4x4 post 8" off a wall? What is the 4x4 doing?

Cut post off at cinder block height. Insert cinder block below end of post. Drink a beer to celebrate a job well done.
