TR - Tyndall Glacier RMNP, CO 8.16.14

Headed up Flattop to see what Ptarmigan and Tyndall looked like. I have never skied this late in the summer in CO. The day didn't disappoint - I saw a variety of wildlife, the weather was killer & shredded a great line I hadn't done in 5 seasons, ended up chatting up some cute Monsanto GMO scientists from St. Louis on the hike out.

Pics make that look fairly steep, particularly there at the top. How was the snow holding up? Looks like a heck of a good time! Thanks for posting it up.

Not much over 45deg I'd guess - here's a view from the tarn. Snow was good and I tried to choose an aesthetic line and pick the smoothest snow. I was hoping to ski a bit to the left but there was really sketchy access at the top and the snow was more "textured". Overall the pitch increases to looker's left. The diagonal couloir on the far left or north side has to push 60deg+ never able to sack up for that line.

Looks like you can't even make turns in it anyway - too narrow?

Probably not this late in the year. One of my best friends snowboarded the line the last time we rode Tyndall. It was in fatter but was still too gnar for me.

It was way better that what one would otherwise expect this time of year. No pics of the hot scientists with the Wisconsin accents unfortunately.

Nice, it looks like it's held on pretty well this summer. I was able to ski it about a month ago and it had really good snow conditions.
