Mork, the Bird Cage, the Fisher King, Dead Poets, Good Will Hunting, Moscow on the Hudson, and many others big, small, notable, and almost forgotten.
The g/f and I were just asking each other what our favorite of his films was...and we both realized there were so many, too many.
He fought his demons all his life. Its so sad that he lost to himself.Last edited by iscariot; 08-11-2014 at 07:44 PM.

I lived in Marin and some old friends there know his wife and say she's a real sweetheart. Bummer.
Strong movie work.

RIP: Robin Williams
I had the privilege of skiing with Robin Williams at Alpine Meadows once about 15 years ago. Loaded a chair with him. He was on tele gear too. I didn't recognize him at first. He looked down at my gear and said "Hey. Your binding is broken." I looked at him the way I always look at smart asses that say that, looked at his gear, looked back at him and realized who he was. I just sat there gaping and stammering and he just said "Yep. It's me." A hell of a nice guy. We chatted a bunch, took a few runs together, and then he took off. Ran in to him at the Cottonwood that evening and he made a point to come up and say hi and chat for a few minutes with my friends then went to his table. Bought us all dinner and beers without telling us. A genuinely nice guy.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

That's rad. I remember one night I went to the opening of Saving Private Ryan in Incline Village. About 5 minutes into the opening scene I hear someone sobbing uncontrollably behind me. I turn around to see if the person is okay, and there he was... Robin Williams. I asked if he was alright and he gave me a nod, then on the way out he thanked me for asking. I've never been too star struck, but I felt pretty honored to have been in his presence. Gonna miss seeing that man on the big screen.

Really!? F ...
I've never laughed so hard as I have for his stand-up. His 'Live on Broadway' that HBO ran about ten years ago is one of my all time favorites. I definitely watched the shit out of Mrs. Doubtfire growing up.

Completely agree. Fantastic stories. What a great actor and ground-breaking comedian.
He was a skilled user of the word "fuck," which is a personal favorite of mine. Good piece here:
http://nowtoronto.com/movies/story.cfm?content=199194"... Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards." – Edward Abbey

i'll have to watch, but at the very end of the routine -- it may have been the met -- he's doing a bit where he's playing a little kid holding his dad's hand and the show ends with him looking up to the lights in the back and flipping off all the shitty stuff that happens in the world. at least that's how i half remember it. it was a long time ago but it was a powerful exit.
and then he got so famous that it seemed like he was doing caricatures of himself. i think movies helped him continue to dig into his original spirit and expand himself, but i mostly (half) remember his standup and the utter mania.
