"As many of you know, I’ve been a suicide preventionist for many years. I thought I’d provide some thoughts about the death of Robin Williams to suicide – a tragic loss indeed.

First of all, don’t rely on the media for information at all. I’m already experiencing disgust at the media feeding frenzy that will sensationalize and mis-inform us about his death and about suicide in general. All media reports should provide phone numbers for suicide prevention lines and how many do?

A more helpful source of information about a suicide such as Robin Williams’ is Thomas Joiner’s book, “Lonely at the Top.” It’s a book about aging men, their isolation, and their increased risk of death by suicide or natural causes. Men in our culture tend not to be well connected to others and their relationships are prone to decline as they get older. Also male activities – such as sports - which males often use to affiliate become less frequent and practical as they age.

Also, let’s face it, Williams, during his performances, often came across as brilliantly manic. Those incredible rushes of verbiage and kinetic energy were some of the most manic behaviors I’ve ever seen. But unfortunately there had to be a crash after such exhilaration which may have been as deep as his manic highs. I can’t really comment as I didn’t know him and it’s all in the details of his real life, but what a sad loss it is.

Thomas Joiner has written in “Why People Die by Suicide” that there are three necessary and sufficient conditions: acquired fearlessness, perceived burdensomeness (on others), and thwarted belongingness. I suspect that these forces came into play in Robin Williams’ death."

In other words, I've never met the man and had one word with him, but I feel confident enough to analyze him from afar.

Probably because he was just a nice guy and didn't surround himself with attorney's, tried to do the right thing in his own mind, and live up to peoples expectations. But unfortunately, in this world, thats usually the end of people who make their own money, they have little protection without a pre nup, especially in CA.

Figure the guys second divorce came right around the crash, paid out all his liquid cash to the ex's, and was then stuck maintaining or trying to sell his 50 million in the Sea Cliff house and Napa ranch. Probably took out huge loans in the meantime. Divorce in America is criminal.
