TR: Park City to Provo
Last weekend a friend and I linked up a bunch of classic Wasatch trails into an epic point-to-point ride that took us from Park City to Provo. We ended up riding 48.5 miles and climbing over 10,000 vertical feet in 11.5 hours.
Started with the classic Park City climb of CMG/Apex/Shadow Lake to Scott's Pass
We rode the only pavement of the day from Scott's Pass down to Brighton and started up the Lake Mary trail
Lake Catherine Basin
Descending from Sunset Pass into upper Dry Fork. Gnarliest descent of the day.
Start of Ridge Trail 157 in American Fork
Ant Knoll, north flank of Timp just coming into view in the distance
Recent rain made for sublime dirt on the north half of 157
The views on 157 do not suck. Side note about my friend's bike--He mostly rides single speed and pretty much only has this bike because he got the frame for stupid cheap and had enough parts lying around to build it up. One of the spare parts in the build is a 10-speed road cassette so his easiest gear all day was 34/27
Looking at the LCC ridgeline. Left to right--White Baldy, Red Baldy, Mary Ellen Gulch
We lost some time to some mechanicals farther south on 157, so after the Timpooneke campground we opted to make up some time by skipping the stout hike-a-bike to Julie Andrews meadow and riding the Timpooneke road and reconnecting with the trail a couple miles later on. This lost us minimal singletrack descending, and the views on the road are better.

Commencing the shredfest around the west flank of Timp
Three miles and 1,500 feet of climbing to Big Baldy pass, the final climb of the day.
Start of the 7.5 mile, 3,000 foot, rugged-as-fuck descent down the GWT into Provo Canyon. Cascade Mountain in the distance.
Altachic and little samtheman met us at the bottom with snacks and cold beer. High fives abounded.

Yeah, that last descent just goes on an on. I had done it before (RAT), but it was 6 years ago and I had forgotten a lot of it.
The funny thing about a ride like this is that you know somebody probably did it 20 years ago on a rigid bike with nothing but a water bottle and a granola bar.

yeah boss! that's awesome. Would you say this is pretty tops for backcountry-ish singletrack epics from Park City? have only ridden the trails in the valley or on the ski areas.

AF feels very backcountry-ish, but you are never more than a couple miles from a road accessible to most street legal vehicles.
You can get pretty far heading north too. Search for a TR springsproject did a few years ago called (I think) "I Got Really High in the Northern Wasatch" where he went from north of Brigham City to Emigration Canyon. You could link to that route from PC via Mid-Mountain, the Jeremy Ranch road, Mormon Pioneer trail and the GWT. If I remember right he did have to drop down to the valley for a good stretch though, do a lot of dirt road climbing, and I've read that the GWT north of Big Mountain pass for a ways is pretty deteriorated and not great riding.
