I’ve had the smaller 24” version (minus the sear box) for the last 3 years. It’s been a solid, trouble free unit. I’d did upgrade the controller to the newer WiFi enabled version earlier this year. Totally worth it and one of the better controllers on the market. Let’s you control temperature and smoke levels independently. Very cool, and it actually works.

I'm doing a tri-tip tomorrow. I'll report back, but I have a bad habit of eating it before taking pictures.

So I've got a massive Cimmaran barrel style smoker but I'm using it less and less each year because I need to baby sit it and it uses tons of charcoal. Not a big deal for ribs or pulled pork, but a pain for any longer smokes.
Are any of the sub $300 cabinet smokers you see at the big box stores any good? If it runs on propane does it negatively affect the flavour of the meat?
Sounds like the biggest complaint about the cheap cabinet smokers are the doors not fitting tight. I'm assuming gasket tape could help, or maybe adding more clasps to keep the door tight?

I guess it truly is tighter. I've never had issue adding coals or water to the 18" through the door. Pour some coals in the chimney and use the door as a slide. Then take an old grill brush to push them around and distribute. My dad took a section of rain gutter and trimmed it to make a longer reaching chute.

Is there any disadvantage to going with the larger unit if you're not going to use all the space all the time? Right now, it's just me, the wife and our 2 year old daughter but eventually I'd like to start smoking meats for get together's whenever those happen again. Also, I can get a pretty smoking deal on the camp chef stuff which negates the need to get a used Traeger.

Just got the Grilla pellet smoker and it's pretty great. No wifi or any fancy stuff, but we'll built and we'll thought out. Not quite as smoky as my Weber smokey mountain on default settings (note that I added a ton of chips to the wsm) but great smoke and the push button-> walk away for hours is great.

I did ribs for the first time last weekend. Indirect grilling on my 3-burner Weber Genesis.

Holy shit this is a great thread. Goose pastrami? Are you kidding? Serious droolfest.
Wifey forced me to pick a grill this summer after hooking it up on 14” Weber charcoal job for almost a decade.
Went with a pit boss, and have had a lot of fun with it this summer. Learning something new with every protein/ baked good/ veggie prepared

Some times I hit a plateau on the grill or smoker on venison, then it kicks up after and gets it done.
