TRs - Patchskiing, Spring, Summer, and Autumn 2014

I'm going to try something different. Instead of posting a separate TR for every patchskiing day, I'm going to try to put them in one thread. I hope that others will add to this. I also hope to provide views, creamed corn and soft-serve snow images, along with some dog stoke.

I'll start with Ebbetts Pass, May 24, 2014.

Being joined by Penny and Makisha:

    Great shot!
Hey, there's a nice patch in the upper left hand corner of this pic, Vets.
I think I know the road that goes there.

Dude, you should write patch skiing in the Sierra guide. You would lose a little peace and quiet, but the crowds might groom down the sun cups. You guys are killing it this spring. Good luck with summer.

Here are few from Roundtop/Sisters on the 12th while we are waiting for skier666's slaythegnar post-production team to post a full TR:

Thanks. I've had a few others mention a similar idea. While I'm not sure about writing a guide book, I will continue to do more patchskiing research.

Made a last minute trip with EastCoastPDR to The Patches yesterday (6/19.)

We skied three patches - the "Right Patch"/"The Patch" three times, one run on the "Left Patch" and one run on the "Center Patch."

    EastCoastPDR on the "Right Patch":

As you can see we had preferred parking.

    Vets:

    EastCoastPDR on the "Left Patch":

    Vets:

The suncups and runnels were smashable.
    Byas made the task easier...

EastCoastPDR starts down a little chute on the "Center Patch":

The patches look like they should make it into next month.

Yesterday (6/22) Mrs. Vets and I took our dogs Makisha and Penny up to Saddlebag Lake on a snow recon mission with Lower Conness Lakes as our destination.

A panoramic view on the hike up:

L to R: Saddlebag Lake, After Work Chutes, Greenstone Chutes, Lower Greenstone. Greg and Paul's Chute, Mrs. Vets.
The only places we saw ski tracks were Greg and Paul's Chute along with the area below Greg and Paul's,

We are up near 11,000 feet and Makisha wants to go higher:

Penny in pursuit of Vets on the "Big L" patch...

...on the next run Penny lead the way...

    Another panoramic 270 degree view:

L to R: Lower Conness Lakes, snow patches, Flinty's, Conness Glacier, Mt. Conness, "Big L" Chute, North Peak.

    Suncups:

    Vets heads down another patch...

...and Penny is in pursuit again...

It was a fun successful snow recon mission. We not only found snow for future trips, Mrs. Vets also found better approach routes.
