no stoke from me this week. i backed off a scary 5.8. these old weissner routes are too heady. and so weird how one week you can feel unstoppable and the next you’re made out of wet cardboard. sucks.

(The picture is staged. He face climbed around the tunnel-through, then dropped the rope through the tunnel to his partner who wanted to do it that way, then posed himself coming out, because everyone takes that picture.)

    Climbing Stoke

Nice, pretty sweet being able to get out with your kid like that.

Kind of a cool sport climb I got to do today in Val David. You get out of that roof and then head all the way right (past the wasps) to get the anchor. PITA to clean.

I only wish. My climbing days are long over. He did it with a friend. Besides, I think my gut is too big for the tunnel through.

No problem, you'll just have to lead the face.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

One from the vault: Caveat Emptor, Death Canyon, Tetons. This and the Snaz (next to it) are well worth doing if you like multipitch trad cragging in the 5.10 range.

    looks sick.

Do any of you guys with a little more history have recommendations for Skytop? My better half got me a guide for my bday, hoping to get on classics at every level from Gargoyle to Foops. Pretty pretty pretty stoked.

Entering Tonsai Bay. They're building a large new resort here with elevated huts amid spaced out palm trees. Really a nice setting but still pretty rough around the edges. Railay West def better spot to stay - Phranang def the best beach on the peninsula.

groove tube! felt like the polished climbs in American Fork only with much more in the way of jugs & options. Stemming & counterpressure opens up more feet and hands than you can count. Fantastic rock for climbing.

In Phuket now & wow... Tonsai/Railay area is stuck in time in a good way. No car traffic to speak of in Railay, just pedestrian walkways linking shops, hotels & beaches. There's hiking if you're into jungle-squito adventuring. Lots of crags, options to get away from the crowds if that's important. Multipitch options are out there & maybe the coolest thing is that there's just a ton of long, steep routes. Tufas & jugs galore - more like gym climbing than anything else I've climbed.

Ah cool. I climbed in Clear Creek just one day many years ago, but at least I got to experience it. Nice rock.

It's fun rock, and the sheer volume of climbs is insane. Not the longest climbs in the world (that one is 5-6 bolts), but can be some really fun climbing to be had. There is still a ton of development going on which adds to the value of the place. Great year round climbing too as long as you chase sun/shade.

FKNA, Skytop lived up to expectations. Best day ever. Here I am following on Crash and Burn... You climb this free standing pillar to the top and then have to get over the main wall before finishing up on thin face. 5.9 holds, 5.14 exposure.

Must have taken me ten minutes of standing at the top to commit.

Haha...no gram. We actually used to gather at somebody's house and have slide show parties after climbing road trips if you can believe that.
