Might still be cat 2 when it makes it here to Durham.. West of Raleigh.
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

Are the in the mountains or lowlands? Expect a lot of flooding inland low areas. Plenty of wind. If it stays Cat 2 through Durham, that would be shocking, but maybe less so if there is already some flossing from the current rain. That is basically what Hugo did in S Carolina if memory serves correctly. Lots of downed trees but strongest wind across the wetlands areas, steeply decreasing with any elevation.

Watching this one. My sister is pretty far away in VA by DC, but still checked in with her to make sure they have supplies.

^^Carborro, so basically Durham. They have a lot with a bunch of big trees on it, and no chainsaw. i'm only hoping they have homeowner's insurance.

So they have a mortgage? Most lenders require insurance.

Currently looks like the worst of the wind field will
    Head south of there.

Anyone surfing these past few days? Looks like solid swell hitting long island currently.

Vibes to all those in the hurricane path this week. Wishing the best to those y'all know down that way.

Got out this morning outside Portland, relatively clean, slow-moving long period swell. Head high with some big overhead sets. Best surf I've had in months, finally got a few good carves in that you picture yourself doing walking down the beach but never seem to pull off in the water! Grateful and stoked.

I always get a kick of all the weather terror the news crews drum up, then they show a shot of the ocean and the lineup is loaded with surfers.

Get some and get out of there boys.

Thanks for the warm water stoke.

Growing up surfing on the east coast, hurricanes were always a mixed blessing when they came ashore some where. Very nice lines in Florida.

The weekend was juan for the books. Surfed dawn to dusk on Saturday, and two cool ledges on Cape Ann on Sunday. Tide came in quickly, but thats the best way to spend football sunday IMO

I can remember one of my best days in Maine. It was a Sunday. Big Nor’easter swell. Wind in the morning had my at Gooches, and then around the corner to a waves that never breaks but did that day. Home in Wells Beach for lunch, then off to the Outer Jetty. Wind had shifted due west, the left was bigger, but shorter. I rode the right. It had 15’ plus faces and was as good as I’ve ever seen it. My leash plug broke that session (I was on my home made board) and washed my board into the channel. Swam in, climbed up the Jetty and returned home. My buddy was watching football and would not budge. “Too big of a swell. Too strong of an offshore.” I went back, but he was right. The wind and tide had come up along with the crowd and it was mayhem at the break. So I went to the beach instead. Ended up a 1/4 off the Jetty, in front of Lisa’s (small salt box college - we used to name the sandbars by which girls house it was in front of) and got it as good as I’ve ever seen it. One, maybe two feet overhead. And like a machine. Each wave was better than the last, as you could focus more and more on turns and less on making it. Cover upS and slashed until the sun was setting. Went back home and got the score to all the games.

Glad to hear y’all are getting some.

^^^ Wow that does look nice, perfect size and appears to be a good rhythm to them instead of getting slammed and all beat up between rides.
