I don't think a box would be more than 7 feet long so you should be well within the maximum width allowed on the road.

Something like this but strip off the bike pads and put on a box:

A guy at the local hill has a setup like this on the back of his camper, looks like it works good.

You're certainly taking your time with this project. Awaiting the finished rig in 2027/8.

You'll probably get more responses in the Ski RV thread. Kya made a cool thing that holds his skis vertically off the handle/steps on the back of the camper.

Maybe take a few years to think about how an extra 2" would really matter?

    2006 tacoma shortbed, with 2008 finch 4WC

Have had a 3" spacer between camper/truck to help the fresh water tank drain clear the truck rails (I've added a small on/off valve so I can fill up waterbottles for mnt bike)

I realized that if I added 3" more I can actually have usable storage for both summer stuff (lawn chairs, bike tools, solar shower kit, etc) and winter ski storage (opening is 6" tall and my tallest ski is 5" from base of ski to top of bindings)

So made this. Might add slide out drawers if needed, but dont have time before my trip, so testing to see if that solution is actually needed.

Really happy with the end result, now off for a 4 week mnt bike trip to test it all.

FWC makes a carrier for SUP that while way overpriced might give you an idea. They use the jack "brackets" on the passenger side of camper as mounting points.

mines good. I got the leaf springs replaced (tacoma warranty) at 300,000 km with same as stock. Added air bags to level out the truck a bit more. Rides better with them, but not 100% needed.

Truck as 2-3" lift, and 17" oversied tires.

camper is 800pound dry weight, but add water, propane, solar shower, bikes and bike rack, etc is NOT light
