I was sitting at the bottom u turn hitching a ride once and saw an Explorer full of frat boys jump off into the ravine. Hilarious. They spent the rest of the day with 2 tow trucks trying to winch it out while we were lapping the pass in pow.

We took 285. Took a little over 3 hours. Was super gnarly around Conifer. Puking hard enough I had to come to a full stop twice. Easy going from Grant to Kenosha. Kenosha through Park was kinda gnarly, not snowing that hard but the typical windblown hiding the car in front of you bullshit.

I passed 8 trucks and 4 large busses ALL with no chains. All spinning wheels or jackknifed. Only 1 truck going the other had chains. Chain law. 4 bald tire cars. WTF. 2 CSP were out there. Only saw them flashing lights at two of those vehicles. Hope they got fined hard. Our enforcement must be a total joke. Like speed limits.

just got home, picked the wrong afternoon for an emergency trip into Englewood. came back 285 shit show started at Grant. someone stuck on Kenosha I tried to help, got to alma and blowing so hard I could not see , started up hoosier and turned around, rerouted back to Fairplay, to BV, To PB and on down to copr. what a PIA night , lots of dipshits speeding, saw a giant tour bus headed toward FairPlay, no chains, brights on, total fu, anyway....good to be on the couch

It was back open 20 minutes later. Best just to use gmaps for your traffic info, CDOT's gotten better at updating conditions but is still too unreliable to count on.

Came over LL Pass this morning and saw a semi stuck in a drift off the road, into the mountainside, just northeast of the top (was going EB). Then more unprepared cars stuck trying to go up the west side before the Basin and the top (chain law was in effect).

What's the current ski traffic situation? Is it the usual get past 470 by 6am (or whenever) program this early in the season? I'm heading back up from Denver tomorrow and trying to figure out when to leave.

Judging by the complete lack of traffic this morning, my guess is that no one in Denver really cares to ski right now with the beautiful weather here in town. That said, the mountains are supposed to get an inch or two tonight, so it should be snowmagaeddon tomorrow morning.

In other words, who knows.

Weekend ski traffic doesn't get bad -- outside of a random pow day or bad weather -- until January, IME. Especially when there isn't much terrain open.
