Well, I do have the longer option of 285, as I'll be in Leadville.

Yeah, I bet there won't be anyone on I70 for the next couple of days. It'll probably be pretty slow. You guys should totally come on up. I'm sure there'll be plenty of room for everybody.

I've personally talked to at least 4 different parties of friends who are headed up tonight and leaving Sunday after skiing. Can't wait to see all their hopes and dreams crushed.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

6:45 AM and it’s red/maroon. Traffic looks like it’s backing up into Lakewood on Rte 6. Pretty much stopped from Idaho Springs down into Lakewood. How do people do it?

Google maps was pushing people into the canyon this morning saying it was 15 minutes faster. After a late start I bit and tried it, which I never do. Completely regret that decision.

Yes, have to prove you’re living that #coloradolife

Now back to the play by play: looks like the Rte 6 maroon is gone and has moved upstream to perennial favorites Geneesee Hill and Floyd Hill.

And now looks like there’s a huge backup to get into Copper, the new Breck.

And Vail Pass is closed because it snowed 1” and morons can’t drive.

I was going to take Vali to Butler Gulch for his first backcountry experience. I knew I left late, but didn’t want to skin in the dark.
I hit 70/470 at 6:30. Saw nothing but brake lights up the hill. Thought I would give 6 a try. Mile back up at the light to turn left. Nothing but brake lights up the canyon.
Ok, let’s try to at least get to top of Floyd Hill using back roads. Eh, nope. Another backup cluster.
Last thought, I’ll go up to Mt Evans gate and just skin up the road. And whadda ya know, hoards heading that way in hopes of skipping over to Idaho Springs.
After an hour of driving nowhere I ended up going for hike at lookout mt

Mock all you want, But I would consider getting off in GJ to Montrose to Gunnison and over Monarch. The reduction in traffic would be worth the extra miles to me. I drove it yesterday, roads were good all the way to Monarch.

Shit, I hit Idaho springs at 6:30am and thought I was late. Only ended up with a 15 minute delay getting to Vail, though.

Micol, you're always welcome to stop by and rest your head.

I won't even hear you, or you me, you bitching about my smoking and drinking, and me about your snoring.

    Well, you know the place.

I'm not stuck on 70/40, but what's the strategy behind allowing one stoplight in Empire to cause 40 to back up to the summit of BP? Is it just stupid small town BS? Or is CDOT on board with this to keep the backup upstream of the 70/40 merge?
