I get a panicked call from one of them Sunday at 7:30 AM “Have you seen the snow report 35 inches overnight. Please tell me that you are going to stay and ski? Cause these guys are leaving!!”

“Hell yeah Im skiing”. I say. DEEEEEP

The other 7 drove home early so that traffic wouldn’t be bad. WTF!?!?

Google maps is now routing though clear creek canyon from boulder to Vail. I guess we can consider that "secret" route fucked forever.

Edit: maybe it's just because of traffic on Floyd hill, but I don't remember it doing that before.

It does that somewhat regularly when traffic is fucked on Floyd Hill. Nothin' new...

I guess I haven't driven to boulder in 10 months or so. It used to be my go to strategy.

Bwahahaha, "Secret" has been out for years. Get stuck behind one casino bus and you'll regret that shit.

That's the thing boys, there is no secret short cut. Frontage road is a joke. CCC is a single lane shitshow.

Tellin ya, drones. Invest in drones. We'll be held skiing in no time. Who needs a resort?

I mean, I did put "secret" in quotes. As in, at least Google wasn't routing Texans through there. I generally preferred the slower, steadier pace up the canyon than the throttle mashing drag race up lookout.

I find I prefer the smooth, somewhat predictable pace of CCC to the aggro Floyd Hill slog. While joining in the left lane going West is like showing up late to a party where everybody is drunk and pissed off, swinging into the exit lane and saying goodbye going East is a true pleasure. Until you get stuck behind the Prius doing 32, but you knew that was gonna happen. Anything at all can crop up on 70, following a dinkus or occasional wildlife is the only issue in CCC.

I go to Denver maybe once a year, but I enjoy the drive until I hit Morrison, then it's a stress fest. I don't care if it takes a few more minutes, but I don't do it regularly, and I never drive at peak times. It's not that bad. If you have a modicum of patience, and don't feel the need to red line everthing.

My favorite times are going westbound at 4 in the morning, watching the moon.

Transportation studies show mountain rail would be great

    Juuust kidding.

Why Spend Millions Studying a Terrible Idea?

A Front Range commuter train is such a bad idea that it doesn’t even deserve to be studied. CDOT’s request for proposals is based more on ideology than rationality and more on politics than economics. Colorado voters should be wary of promises made about costs, ridership, and congestion relief as the likelihood is that it will cost far more, carry fewer riders, and provide no reductions in congestion.

Mountain rail would be even worse.

Construction began in July on the WB peak period shoulder lane from twin tunnels to empire. I, for one commend CDOT for at least doing something with the limited resources offered by taxpayers. I will happily pay to use this lane during peak periods just like I happily pay to use the EB lane.

Should be ready for use by next winter.

I am surprised that the WB shoulder is wide enough through idaho springs for this project.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

One thing I’m really curious about is the section from Floyd Hill to the twin tunnels. Will that be 3 lanes? Or will the highway go from 3 to 2 then back to 3?

I foresee some accidents at the big turn left WB at the bottom of Floyd Hill with an express lane...people driving down the hill too fast then having to brake and turn hard while staying in the lane and not hitting the jersey barrier.

The latter, at least for now: https://www.codot.gov/projects/i70mt...-shoulder-lane

Looks like long-term they're considering a westbound tunnel punched through to Hidden Valley?
