^ Just came out of another public meeting, hearing what is becoming a very tired refrain... "Somebody ought to do something about that." In this case it was shooting... No one wants more firearms regulation, no one wants to pay more taxes to fund law enforcement or forest management... No one wants to do anything... But everyone has an expectation that someone's going to swoop in and fix their problems without making any changes they don't like. Listened to two people tonight who live on opposite sides of the same valley, neither of whom support a shooting ban throughout the valley - just near their own houses respectively. They both have the same problem, and neither has enough empathy, let alone common-fucking-sense to see the need to cooperate... From one letter: "is there any avenue to banning shooting in my neighborhood only?". That's a direct quote. It's insane. But sure... It's the government's fault...

Huge 21.4% increase in state sales tax rate (actual 0.62% increase) to piss off the conservatives... meanwhile vehicle registration fees get cut so car owners take a smaller relative portion of the burden and we institute a regressive general sales tax increase to piss off the liberals.

Well, I guess that is the definition of compromise.

The top priorities are the expansion of Interstate 70 through the mountains and widening of Interstate 25 north and south of Denver.

The $677 million in total transportation dollars outlined in the legislation would split into three buckets.

The majority of the money — $350 million — would go toward a payments on a potential $3.5 billion bond package.

The remaining share would be split with 70 percent to local governments for road improvements and 30 percent earmarked for transit-oriented projects.
The numbers they are throwing out don't seem to add up... confused by that.

^^ from what I remember, cdot and the politicians have been arguing for the past few years, common sense says collect gas taxes and vehicle reg fees (I vote to double or triple the cost of hybrid/electric car reg fees but that's just me) collect the fees and taxes and complete work as the money rolls in. Cdot for some reason has been pushing bonds it seems they got their way. Don't remember all the specifics but this has been going on behind the scenes for years now

They'll raise the taxes and use all the money to study what they should do to improve the problems around the state. By the end, they won't have any money left and we'll end up with another shoulder that they can charge you to drive on...sometimes.

In other news, CDOT signage stating that the left lane is a passing lane has decreased left lane loungers by 0%

I would like to thank CDOT for the rolling 30mph snowplow cockblock down from the tunnel this morning, clearing non-existent snow from the road and spreading gravel and large rocks everywhere.

Not sure how weekend warriors handle driving on 70!

I was in Boulder for a Friday meeting and then a quick rode ride (Lee hill/Left Hand/Old Stage - love that ride!) then headed back late afternoon.

Got stuck for 35 minutes near the wind farm for a 2 car accident...

Finally hit Golden (albeit bad timing, but that's the point here), got on 70 around 6pm, and for nearly the entire trip, it was speed up / slow to 15, repeat...all the way to S-thorne.

It wasn't weather or road conditions - just BAD drivers AND left lane squatters!

How in the world do you people do this?

I think most of the people here on TGR know how to get around that madness but yeah, it's insane. On the other hand, I went up and back yesterday, no problems at 9am WB and 6PM EB. Definitely lots of bad driving all the time.

Legislation in CO is sort of indirect. For instance, they don't generally enforce for failure to keep right, minimum speed, fog lights, tailgating, required equipment, etc... But they just passed a law allowing everyone to buy machine guns and silencers without a permit. Not the solution I would have proposed, but you have to use the tools the system provides.

^ I must have misread something... There's been a rumor going around that you could buy Class 3 stuff with no permit in CO now - a brief search seemed to confirm that, but looking more closely, probably not. My bad...

Unfortunately except in the movies there's no such thing as a silencer. Suppressors help prevent health hazards of hearing damage. But the muzzle noise is still louder than a lawn mower.

Looks like a helluva smash up by Genesee according to reports. Think they said EB came across median and struck WB minivan. From the view looks like jaws of life used on driver and back seat of minivan possibly. Flight for life seen leaving scene. Not good.

Gotta wonder why there isn't a catch fence in the median like most everywhere else around the front range highways

    on another note
cdot actually did some basic maintence that they have never done a week ago
since the weather got nice around the weekend of the 11, they went out and actually re striped the lane lines that got plowed off from vail down to georgetown ish, usually cdot waits until august to go re stripe the lanes every year, which is idiotic but that's how they operate, so big props to them for seeing the opportunity and getting out there and marking the lanes, it's like filling pot holes, something that needs to be done all the time, but usually they are too busy developing apps with tax payer money instead of fillin pot holes

as dumb as it sounds, most people are "too busy" to actually pay attention to where their car should be on the road, the lane markings help a little bit keeping the dumb fucks in line
