Just because it's an interstate doesn't mean the feds pay for maintenance. At least not how I understand it.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Maybe they should spend the money allocated to the Floyd Hill reroute to actually doing solid maintenance annually, which will prevent accidents and worse. All the Floyd Hill project will do is move the bottleneck somewhere else.

Maybe you should apply to run cdot, it sure seems like you understand highway funding and maintenance issues better than them.

There’s federal money in maintenance but what qualifies can be complicated. Regardless of funding it’s hard to get out and patch stuff up in the middle of winter, and the rutted pavement can only be fixed by repaving the entire stretch of road (or at least that lane). And even if there was unlimited money there aren’t enough contractors to do the work.

    tl;dr “It’s complicated”

So for future reference you want to stay in the right lane coming out of the tunnel to avoid this massive pothole that seems to keep reappearing?

If you're going the speed limit or below, you stay in the left lane, duh. The right lane is only for traveling at least 15mph over the limit.

Perhaps CDOTs budget is flexible enough to cover a Dukes of Hazard style ramp on the lead edge?
