Last night on the news they talked at length about it. The news guy said that back when they were debating wether the route for I70 should go over Cottonwood or through GWC they decided on GWC because it was $50M cheaper. How is that possible? Just because it is shorter I guess?

Either way, I wonder what it'll be like during "Desert Season" this fall. eek

Also, there are a few more back roads through that same area that'll get you over to Basalt, might not be a bad idea to take them rather than the other alternatives.

The 285 bridge project is on indefinite hold until I-70 is open again.
Highway 50 is fully open until I-70 is open. Never seen so much traffic on 50 in Gunnison, can't imagine what Steamboat's been looking like on 40.

Keep in mind the natural disasters we see here are happening all over the world. There is not enough money or labor to keep up. Crumble crumble crumble. Band aids for some and completely rebuild other roadways.

Eagle Thomasville is a FS road that many cars got stuck on last year.

Cottonwood is dicey when you met a box truck BEFORE this, now it's just a complete pain in the ass. It's where I usually rode my bike... not so much right now.

If you are going another way than Indy Pass, plan on doing at least modest 4 wheeling.
