Scroll down part of the page and there is a 3+ minute drone footage vid.
Yeah, it’s gonna be a bit. And what is all that material going to do to the river? Brutal.
Folks are already talking about 1st descents once the flows come up. Should be interesting.

So can we all just say that we hope all this moisture sticks around for winter?
I wonder when increasing the number of alternate routes by paving/maintaining some of the back roads becomes a real discussion for CDOT and the feds, rather than constantly battling this road through the canyon every fucking year.
You shut your whore mouth! It's gonna dump! God damn I need a good snow year this season.
I've lost count of how many times that Glenwood has been closed for significant amounts of time due to some kind of natural catastrophe since I moved out here. And the times in between those catastrophes, the damn road is always under construction. I know it was considered a marvel of engineering in its day, but at what point do they give up and come up with a better solution? That's basically the story of the entire I70 corridor though I guess.
That would be my guess. There is already too much infrastructure invested in the current path and where would this reroute go? Locals in places like Cottonwood Pass and Meeker and Steamboat will raise holy hell if they try and put an interstate through their backyards. And absorbing an interstates worth of traffic through local alternative routes would put most communities west of the tunnel in a shit fit if they had to do that all year long. Look at the complaints from communities on the current detour already. And many local alternatives are county roads, like Cottonwood Pass, and the state can't force them to improve it or do anything to it, it's up to the counties.
I don't really see what the big deal is with a couple weeks closure, not much happening west of Gypsum these days anyways.

That drone footage gives you a great perspective of the rise up to the Flat Tops. You sure aren’t rerouting it up Coffee Pot !
Just build the monorail already…

There have been a lot of road rage calls this summer. But honestly not sure if any different from any other year, but this has been the worse summer for our local traffic in quite some time.
We’ve seen a steady increase of people brandishing weapons driving, but last week got our first shots fired. Something folks might want to keep in mind before their next brake-check; a lot of people have short fuses lately.
