You know, I used to think this way, but if you look at the numbers, Colorado is nowhere near "full," it's that all of the ignorant, in-bred southern expats (Colorado White Trash) and ranch land bumpkins don't realize that you need to invest in infrastructure if you're going to move a few million people around a big ass state. With a commitment to infrastructure improvements, Colorado could easily accommodate 3 times the population it has now with fewer traffic clusterfucks.

People aren't going to stop moving here, so ya'll better figure the fuck out how to move them around, ASAP. I'll remove myself from the equation, because living somewhere it's only cloudy 36 hours a year is starting to fuck with my head; can't stand that Stepford Wife weather.

noticed that when I was at my office on peak 8, the lines were not bad at all for a saturday afternoon on peak 8, it was weird almost took a picture
the type of people in town right now looked more like summer and off season tourists than your typical well bred winter tourist
cdot asked the county to poney some money up for the highway project and the county said fuck you, so this is what we get, the four laneing in frisco won't happen for five more years, cdot wants to throw in a couple traffic circles, sound walls, and other bullshit, so they need to come up with 12 million, they are just starting to design it which will take two million and three years to do

oh and so this is the complaint thread it took me twenty minutes to get from peak 8 to airport rd and a half hour to get from airport road back into town to my house, my bad for working until four on a saturday

It’s funny, I complain about I70 but two NYC friends recently visited separately and commented they didn’t think the traffic was that bad even though we sat through the typical Friday night / Sat AM BS.

I just don’t get why these tourists keep coming back when you could easily fly into SLC and be skiing a ton easier? If I were an east coaster or Midwesterner who came in to ski Summit County and dealt with the I70 clusterfuck both ways to the airport, unbelievably crowded slopes on a Saturday, then 2 hour waits for dinner, I’d look elsewhere next time.

I'm willing to bet tourists make up a small percentage of the overall traffic on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.... most of that problem is caused by the 3MM people on the Front Range and the fact that there's a single 2-lane highway going in and out of the mountains that serves eight major resorts. Sure, the out-of-state tourists might sit in traffic to/from their hotel or condo, but overall it's not a huge part of their experience and they don't know any better.

Tell me about all the tourists that are landing at DIA at 6am on Saturday, grabbing their rental, and driving right into the mess of traffic.
People seem to have a good time here on vacation. They may continue coming as they please.
But sure, keep worrying about the "people" who need to go elsewhere. Certainly not you or I, right?

It’s funny because people like fastfred who complain about traffic are the same ones that don’t want to pay to improve the infrastructure.

In my early years of skiing, I was just happy to be skiing anything. I am much more particular which has it's +'s and -'s, but remembering back puts what a lot of these visitors experience is likely to be. It's not like they have to drive I70 every day to ski, just the once up and the return trip with fun days in between. If they come from a land of traffic, it probably barely registers, and if not, it is just the price to pay. I could be off on that, but just hazarding a guess.

    This.

It’s just a couple hours from the airport most of the time, and if they aren’t driving up Saturday morning it usually isn’t that bad if it isn’t snowing.

Resorts are a total shitshow on the weekends but weekdays are still empty for the most part. I was at Breck on Tuesday and was actually kinda surprised how uncrowded it was. I hadn’t been there on a weekday in a while. No lines for anything, just ski on to every lift. The high alpine was deserted.

I think the I70 shitshow and weekend crowds barely impacts the average family that stays in Breck or vail for a week.

Dude, you don’t even like the weather?

I hope you find your happy place.

I don’t really mind paying for infrastructure.
But you just can’t build for maximum load.
People have to adapt and the smart ones will first.

The problem with I-70 is the family of four from Littleton. This family drives a modest 2010 Honda Odyssey. Dad works as a mortgage broker for First Bank and Mom is a middle-school teacher. They bought an Epic Local Pass this year and hope to get their two kids in to skiing (cause it's so ColoRADo). Dad is a shitty driver who doesn't belong on snow. Period. He's not even athletic. The kids should hope that Mom wants to quit skiing, then maybe, if the kids are lucky, they'll take up soccer and stay in the Front Range.

In Canada, the government offers free winter driving courses all over the place even in tiny rural towns.....might be something for Colorado to consider cuz there are lots of folks who are completely incapable of handling mountain roads in the winter in CO and more streaming into CO every day. Cheaper than a tunnel bore.

Let's invite Amazon, Apple and an Olympics.

Morons in Lexuses constantly changing lanes whenever the opposite lane had a few car lengths open.

And moron news stations with their info for morons new to Colorado. They should tell them the valuable info. But and use snow tires or get a fine. Stay in your lane when it's bumper to bumper. Studies show constantly changing lanes slows all traffic. Use turn signals. Drive right pass left.

Important info. Who the hell cares about Speer and the street named after him?

Just because there are arid empty plains doesn't mean it's suitable to create gridlock and fake town centers every half mile. There not enough water for your theee times as many people. Especially when these newbies insist on Kentucky blue grass lawns and washing their cars every other day.

Or move them all to Candelas and give them cancer in a few years. Not that I condone that. But Jeffco, the developers and the state will be responsible. Or not since homebuyers are required to sign waivers and agree to not plant vegetables that suck up radioactive articles.

the wife and kids wanted to goto denver today so we packed up the 2011 honda odyssey and headed down for a day of costco shopping, park medows, and panera bread. Lucky for me they dropped me off at wash park where I did a few laps and checked out chicks in yoga pants. I was doing 80 the whole way back up even while loaded down with some ikea furniture. The poor suckers. People rather sit in traffic instead of eating dinner or relaxing, frikin weird

huh the LIE or the northway in summer makes 70 look pretty undercontrol the only difference is people know how to drive back there and once bumper to bumper traffic is up to speed there is none of this colorado bullshit "I'm scared so I'm going to slow down" if you pull that shit there you'll just get run off the road

Having grown up with the Northway, I can attest to the insanity of it, but at least the drivers there were competently aggressive.

Yes and no. It only takes 1% of drivers to be unskilled to screw the pooch for the other 99%.
That and the fact of quite a few drive thru vehicles that are just trying to navigate this section of their journey. I see quite a number of drivers (truckers included) that are ill prepared for winter conditions (Evergreen to Avon mainly).
