[Europe] Kayak Meet-Up: June 19th to 22nd // South Tyrol

Dear Euro Kayakers & everyone visiting the Alps for summer:

We're happy to announce the 10 year edition of our exquisite whitewater kayaker meet-up!
Just like in the past years, the focus is on hitting great lines on the local creek runs, meeting new people, and partying hard.

After several meetings in Ötz valley, Wallis, east Tyrol, and Engadin, we've decided to follow the precipitation pattern, our explorative spirit and our thirst for good Espresso:
This year's meetup will take place in south Tyrol, hopefully with good flows sustained by the higher than normal snow pack in the south-eastern alps!
As usual, there will also be additional program surrounding the kayaking: in the past this has ranged from team races on class 4+ whitewater to rescue&river skill related challenges in random groups, plus our usual beer & cocktail bar.

    Facts:
    Date: June 19th to 22nd 2014
Location: South Tyrol, near Rienz, Hotel Giesser costs for camping 9.- / night / person

While still being an event mainly populated by paddlers from German-speaking countries, we've always had the pleasure of hosting groups of international guests & are looking forward to make this event as international as the paddling habits of everyone attending.

No registration required. Show up, paddle, party.
Note: we do not organize guided trips of any type - usually, groups form depending on skill level and daily objectives.

    Sweet.

Having just got back from a week skiing in the Dolomites, I've been intrigued about the kayaking in the area - seems to be a bit under the (Brit, at least) radar. Should be able to make it over for a few days at least!

Any chance you can point me in the direction of some more general river (put-ins, descriptions, etc) info please? German is ok, I haven't found anything in English.

    Cheers!

did you find some good lines in the Dolomites?

Well I paddled Boite and Gaderbach last year both of which are awesome. You can also paddle Rienz, Rheinbach waterfalls, then there's another river in Sand in Taufers I think..

Boite also has a lower canyon apparently (search for Boite Canyon kayak in youtube).

    Here's a link on 4-paddlers:

Here I'm sneaking a nasty spot where most of the water goes into a sieve:

basically you start in Cortina (end of town) and paddle for a few kilometers until it gets flat and just before some weirs pop up. It's easy to shuttle by bike.

    Gaderbach is described here:

(you want to run the lower section). Depending on the water level it can probably be a rather technical run, but when we were there it was kind of like Pitzbach with high water. Some old reports talk about lots of garbage in the gorge but I can't confirm that. It was a really nice canyon down there.

Rienz has about 10k of class 2-3 (also on 4-paddlers) and a canyon at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSfh3BEhZKI
But I haven't managed to paddle it yet. Apparently it also works with quite a bit more water than in the video but better to verify that.

    Rheinbach:

If you go further west you can check out Noce, which has a couple of sections of class 3-4 and 4, the final section into the lake being more of a 4-5. It's a great run that gets rafted quite a bit.

Haven't been there for a few years but I remember the tributaries being nice, too. At least Vermigliana.

Other classics of the region are also Eisack and Etsch, Passer, Ahr (http://www.soulboater.com/news/extre...speed=noscript).
