Yeah you can if you know enough or have the inclination to tinker. Especially with things like beagleboards so cheap. Unfortunately I suspect this is aimed at people who like the idea of home brewing more than the process and tinkering.

Brewpi's cheap and ready to go: http://www.brewpi.com/ for fermentation temp control. Tons of stuff out there. Dunno, like shirk says, tinkering was always the point. Didn't save much money or brew better beer.

I remember the first time I saw that at CBC. Did a triple take. Always thought it was just the craziest idea.

The craft beer world has become a dangerous place to try to make significant money. Quite a change over the last 5 years.
