Biots for tails, simple grey dubbing teased out and a red bead has been working real well for me.

Tied up a bunch of sows last night. Lead wire, sow dub mixed with a little ice dub brown body, flash and peacock hurl backs. Thanks for the tip D next batch will have biot tails, had no biots so tied in a piece of tan thread. Might trim the sides in a little more but will fish them this way this week on the lower provo and see... Dropped a hundo at Fishtech for supplies the other day. Probably drop that much today between them and sportsmans and scheels. Best purchase so far, +1.75 reading glasses. Wow what a difference for these aging peepers. Next up caddis and stimulators, mothers day is just around the corner. My wife calls this arts and crafts for men. Yep.

this one's called the nut butter. i guess it was originally designed for pike or musky but the guys in the Ozarks found it worked well on pig browns. it's kind of like the kitchen sink, little bit of everything.

had to offset that beast above so I tied up a few flies to use swinging my new spey rod. platte river spider.

kind of screwed up the wing profile on that one but it should still swim alright

Been a rough stretch the last few weeks. Trying to survive everything life keeps throwing at me long enough to make it to the Keys next month. Decided on some vice therapy, first tie in a couple years. Knocking out some toads and pounding some Cab tonight.

Ha, yep Key West for me. To quote my buddy, in May there are more Idaho and Wyoming cars at the dock than there are Floridians.

^ I've got everything in the mail to tie up some of those as well as a bunch of other "summer" steelhead flies.

For now, I used some materials I already had to tie up what is probably more of a "winter" fly but I've heard these can work well all year.

and I'm probably going to fish a high and slightly off color river this weekend and I didn't have much white in the box

My first ever hand-tied flies on a vice,
On a Cabelas $35 fly tying tool set, made in India.

    Worms and eggs.
I caught a lot of trout on these believe it or not....but...
I must of lost three dozen or more of this pattern to the river bottoms and trees last spring,
I will next season again I imagine.
So it's already paid for itself.
Anyway, these are a cool way to learn the basics.
Can't wait to start learning more patterns.

worms tend to have tapered points at their ends
i'd burn n twist ifin you want the bacon to be a more realistic pattern
but what do i know i don't nymph or tie
but i am uber envious of d fins scissor quiver

    You're right!
I would have melted the ends with a lighter, couldn't find one.
I'll do it now that I'm home.
(I tied these at work, couldn't wait)
I need a better egg veil too. the nylon stuff I bought is too stiff.
I'm addicted now to this too...great.

My first fishing was with nymphs. Thats how i learned!
Roll casting the blue this May with a thing-a-ma-bobber and worms/eggs/shrimps.
Learned to false cast and tie knots and fight fish while flinging nymph rigs this early season.
Dry flies are more fun to to use, sure, but I'm a fishing jong so I'm just learning about it all, and loving every minute no matter what it is.
    catching fish is cool.

Lost my only two Pat's rubber-legs today on the Colo River to hungry Browns, I wish I had brought more. That seems like a simple pattern to tie.

time for another attempt at catching those fish that eat weird, flashy flies. Had to tie some in colors that I didn't have much of, just in case.
